I had sent my GC several emails about submitting my counselor rec to the University of Maryland before November 1st. She told me she did it. It had never been submitted. A couple days before thanksgiving break after more unanswered emails my mom called the school and got the principle involved. I emailed Univetsity of Maryland about a week ago about still being considered for priority admission despite my reccomendation being late. She never sent in the reccomendation! They were kind enough to say that she can send an email explaining this and I might still be able to be considered for priority but I doubt this is going to happen. She is my schools only guidance counselor. Is there anything I can do??? I am so upset because she has failed to turn in so many things on time that now I’m not being considered for scholarships at other schools despite relentless emails and calling the school (were an online public school).
Wow, that is disappointing to hear. If the university said they would still consider you, I would take them at their word.
So what did the principal say?
Are you back to school yet or not until next week - or anytime, since it is online? I would email the principal today and ask where things stand on the replacement copy of the letter. I would also call the GC as soon as school starts back up and follow up again. Give her the email address of an AO at the college. You don’t want to come down too hard on the GC in case it really did “get lost in the mail” or something, but emphasize that you have already lost scholarships and therefore can’t risk it happening again. A teacher might write a LOR as a favor, but a GC… this is part of her job!
Good luck to you.
You might want to try to get the principle to send an email, including a recommendation, to UMD.
The way I would handle it is to come across with the assumption that the GC DID send it, it just got “lost” in between. It doesn’t matter if this is true, but it lets the GC save face.
To: GC
Cc: Principal
GC: Thank you so much for following up with me on the recommendation letter for UMD. There must have been some kind of electronic mix up after you sent it…would you mind please resending it to XYZ and cc:ing the Admissions director, J. Smith at jsmith@umd.edu? If you resend it today, they said they could still consider me under priority action.
Thank you so much for your support and know this time of year is quite busy with all the other students applying.

My daughter’s recommender had a ton of trouble uploading his recommendation to the coalition app last cycle. He thought he did it but it didn’t go through. He eventually got help from someone else at school.
IMO, the coalition app stinks and is not anywhere close to as user friendly as the common app. I would definitely give your GC the benefit of the doubt.
Were you not checking your Coalition app to make sure everything was received? It would be very clear that the rec wasn’t received and your app would not have shown as complete.
