Counselor messed up?!?!!

So I was absent after I turned all my secondary school report stuff to my counselor, so I don't know if she saw that MIT was not one of the common app schools, and had their own secondary school report. Would I be screwed over if she sent in the common app secondary school report form? I will not be able to contact her to make changes about this until we get back to school on January 9th.

Hopefully your counselor is experienced enough to know that MIT does not use common app. If not, just contact her and fix it as soon as possible. You wouldn’t be screwed, especially since it isn’t you who is sending the secondary report, but try to avoid this mix up as much as possible just in case.

If she mailed or faxed the common app secondary school report I think you are fine. MIT states that they accept the common app teacher recommendation or the teacher’s own report, but they prefer their own. I think this can be applied to counselors as well. Also, they mention that if you complete all the stuff YOU are supposed to submit on time, they are lenient about the teacher recommendations and counselor reports.

I advise that you just chill out. MIT sounds to be pretty lenient about the counselor reports and teacher recommendations. Just have give your counselor the MIT report when you get back to school and send it in a few days late. Best of luck!

thanks. i emailed my counselor and asked to double check. she’s kind of new at this, so i’m not quite sure if she saw, since i gave her a huge packet with envelopes because i have to address those.

We meet again banana! I’m sort of in the same situation…MIT uses Naviance so I just assumed that whatever my counselor submitted on the system was automatically sent to MIT…Now I’m not so sure…

^ If you’re on Naviance, it’s easy to find out if it’s been submitted. In your own Naviance account, go to “Schools I have applied to”. It should list MIT, and under “office status” it should say “Initial materials submitted”. If it does, your things have been sent. If it doesn’t list MIT, nothing’s been sent.

EDIT - On Naviance, the counselor has to manually tell it to submit to every school. If you didn’t tell your counselor to submit to MIT (or any other school you’re applying to), it won’t happen automatically.

Thanks! Luckily, MIT is lenient on these recommendations.

My teacher rec letters were really late, like a week and a half after the deadline for ea, it was miscommunication and te fax just didn’t arrive I guess, but MIT gives a date that they will accept school forms until which is like a week or so after te deadline so you’d be fine
