Counselor-O-Matic says I'm a match?!?!

It doesn't make any sense...

Canadian Male

GPA: 89% UW (considering the total distribution of marks in my school, I'd say this equates closer to a 3.6-3.8 on the typical American grading system).

Class Rank: 9/76 in small honours program within school, top 6% in school overall (large public, sends very few kids to good American schools due to cost and general ambition of most students).

Course Load: Almost all honours or advanced classes. 18/24 honours over last four semesters.

SAT I: 2270 (800 CR/760 M/710 W)
SAT II: Range of 730-770 on Lit, 740-780 on Math IIC, 720-760 on French.

ECs: Newspaper Editor and writer (4 yrs.), Lit. Journal Editor (3 yrs.), Battle of Bands Organizer (2 yrs.), Intercity Hockey Asst. Coach (2 yrs.), bass and guitar (5 yrs), Quiz Team (2 yrs.)

Great recs, very good essays.

I know I have pretty good stats, but why does PR's Counselor-O-Matic say that I have no reaches?

Looking at UPenn (ED), UChicago (EA), P'ton, Stanford, NYU-Stern, Columbia, UCB (Haas), NU, Amherst, Williams, Dartmouth.

I dunno much about the Can. system, but your GPA is a little low, though I hear that it's harder to get a really high GPA in Canada than in the U.S., and your class rank seems to validate that...

I'd say your matches are Northwestern, Chicago, and Stern. The rest are reaches (for most ppl), but maybe someone else has a better idea.

I agree that Princeton, UPenn, Stanford, Columbia, UCB, Williams, & Dartmouth are reaches for most folks & your STATs should get you considered by them. Those schools still only accept a very small % of these qualified applicants, even so (since so many apply). I'm not all that familiar with the STATs at the other schools you're considering.

ED may give you some advantage, but you understand that you are obligated to attend (& withdraw your other aps) if you're accepted.

I'm more than ready to attend Penn--for a long time, it's been my #1 choice (though I'd be elated to end up at any of those schools--I'm not as fickle as some other people).

Hopefully, more than just my SATs will get me considered at some of the other schools...right? ;)
