Counselor rec bad, should I talk to her?

My counselor rec is a total rehashing of my r

lol, I was in exactly the same situation last week. Basically, I suggested that he use some quotes from teachers and administrators - the assistant principal (who knows me more) wrote the National Merit school recommendations, and I got to have a copy of mine (it was incredible), so I suggested to my counselor that he could say something like "our assistant principal says of him..." and then include a snippet.

In the same National Merit app there was a long passage written by band teacher about me, so he quoted that too, and I also suggested that ask for a quote from my ap physics teacher (who had me sophomore year, so wasn't one of my main teacher recs for colleges), who then sent him part of his rec for RSI. With three very substantial, praise-filled (not just standard praise, but useful stuff, like "best in career in this") passages, all from people who knew me but whom colleges never otherwise would have known, the counselor rec became very nice, and even the non-quoted material substantially improved - there was now more human evidence to back up statements like "great student".

So, in public schools like ours, where counselors are overworked and assigned far too many students (I really admire them for being able to write recs at all), this might be the best option - if there are any teachers or administrators who you know would say great things about you but aren't going to be writing you any main recs, suggest that your counselor ask them for quotes.

Is it too late for EA to have my GC do this?

How important is the GC red?

Well... as long as the rec/transcript is postmarked by Nov. 1st, it's okay... so it depends on your GC's schedule. It's probably not that important, since colleges know that most GCs don't know their students too well... but then again, a good one can't hurt.

i read somewhere that if it doesnt say anything and you go to a large public school that they understand its hard to know your gc personally. they basically said it wouldnt hurt you
