My school decided to stick me with a new counselor for my senior year. I'm a bit confused now about what I should do for my counselor recommendation. Should I just go back to my old counselor and ask for the recommendation since he actually knew me to some extent? Or should I just go with the new counselor and hope she says something good about me??

Clearly it makes more sense to ask the person who knows more about you....

OMG! the same thing happened to me!
Except my old counselor told me, after having asked her if I should go to her instead for my rec, said that sometimes it's stronger to have the person who is doing your transcripts and school reports to also write the rec. But she said she'd still be glad to write it if I chose to have her do so...
so is this true? Does it appear stronger to colleges to have the same person write the rec and do the school reports, etc.?

I’m sure colleges don’t want shallow recommendations. Just because a counselor is handling the school report does not mean that person knows anything about a student. If the person who knows more about the student writes on the recommendation: “I was student X’s counselor during grades Y and Z” colleges would prefer that over a person who just met the student and can’t attest to the personal and academic strengths of the student.

I had a different counselor each year of high school, and none of them knew me (with 3000 students, that's not surprising). Are you in AP or IB? Your AP/IB coordinator is qualified to write your counselor's recommendation.

I have the exact same problem. I came to my current school in 11th grade so I only spent one year getting to know my previous GC (but she knew me really well considering we have 4000 in our school) and now, all of a sudden, they change GC's on me. What am I supposed to do?
