How much influence does the guidance counselor recommendation have during the admissions process? I go to a fairly large public school and I dont believe I have talked to my guidance counselor more than twice and I am worried that she will not be able to write much of a recommendation.

Not much, especially at large public schools. College admissions deans know that it's not always possible to form good, close relationships with counselors at big schools. They will know all about your school when you apply, because your counselor will send a profile about your high school along with your transcript.

what if your counselor retires?

mine is after three years of getting close to her, and i'm worried that the new person will just write a really generic one. is there any way my old counselor can do it? her last day is before the school year starts but still a while from now.

yeah thats really not fair for me either. i go to public school, around 2500 kids and my counselor whom ive known for 2 years is going away and we are getting a new one.
