Counselor said Spring Grades dont matter

I spoke to a counselor today and they said that as long as you pass all your spring classes and maintain an overall gpa of 3.0 or greater, UCLA will not revoke you. It does play a role in grad school however. But as long as you get into UCLA in April, you should maintain acceptance as long as you pass all your spring classes. If anyone has heard otherwise, please let me know the source.

I've heard that by my counselors as well, and it's safe to assume it's correct, but given the circumstances that it is UCLA (and for me it IS Cal) I think, and many will agree (there's a similar thread out there) that it would be kinda looked down upon if you slack off the last semester. I mean, it's the last semester before you transfer, shouldn't you work your hardest? Again, this is my opinion. But I'm pretty sure what you're saying is correct, the UC Davis Rep told me the same thing.

They do matter if you intend on going to graduate school.

Obviously you get your acceptances before spring grades come out so they do not matter in that regard. As long as you don't totally screw up your last semester prior to transferring, you should be fine.

All Ive heard is, get no lower then a C in any of your classes and your fine.

Grad school looks at your community college grades??? Oh snap.

Why wouldn't grad schools look at all of your college transcripts?

Its not like one semester of a 3.0 is going to ruin your chances, unless you're trying to go to Harvard or something.

And if that's the case, you're already screwed for attending a community college in the first place.

I would keep pushing to get as high of a GPA as you can. Even if you concede that spring grades don't matter for anything, you could see it as your chance to do well in school not as a means to anything, but for the intrinsic value of performing at your best when no one is watching, patting you on the back, or offering external motivation like an acceptance letter. Sometimes working hard to achieve your best is satisfying in itself.

Dude I've had Ds in CC, didn't think it mattered...

UCSD experimental psychology has hella high expectations, damn it.

As to working your hardest being satisfying in itself, I've been there done that. Now what satisfies me is learning cool stuff, not grades. I guess that's too bad for me then.

it's just like around 11 wks for me, so i say just hang on there

Dont get me wrong, Im not saying we should all just slack off. Im just trying to make those worrying a little less stressed.

hey people I am having the same dilemma. this is by far my worst semester in my 2 years at my CC and feel very nervous on whether if accepted to UCLA, I could get my decision revoked if I just pass my classes and don't get A's on them. I am slacking off way too much, but need to get serious. KingInc, what happens if I drop a class thats on the IGETC? like biology with lab? this is my only class left to complete. I ve heard that UCLA doesnt let you retake the class over the summer is this true or if i can do it over there? what about dropping a prereq course? does it look bad? what do you think would look better for a last semester prereq a B or a W and why do you think so?

no u cant retake classes in summer. dont drop bio w/ lab if you need it for igetc or prereq. you will get revoked. worst comes to worse.. just get a B/C in it and PASS. also make sure that youre GPA wont fall to below a 3.0 after the spring. dont get a W.

Cheeser dont worry so much. As long as your cumulative gpa doesnt fall below a 3.0 after this spring then your admission wont get rescinded from any school. To get below a cumulative 3.0 you would prolly have to get a 2.0 or something and I doubt you would get that low of a gpa.

thanks for the info and motivation. I am going to strive with it and get the best possible grades that I can. How are you doing in your last semester? what classes are u taking and whats your major?

Am I the only one who thinks this is unfair? I mean, I will most likely benefit from having my spring grades marginalized, but I still think others might be jipped. Two applicants could end up with the same GPA after 4 semesters/6 quarters, but one gets into a great school(slacked off last term) and the other gets rejected(slacked off first term) -since they basically base your admission on the first year and a half of work.

^
Very good point you made. Thankfully though, the higher UCs (UCLA and Cal) will probably reject you if you slip badly. I don't think it's fair that people think that just because the application is out of the way, you can start slacking off. Senior year high school again?

This semester I'm taking it more seriously than I did last semester! (I got a 4.0 by slacking off and procrastinating tho. LOL. == )

No sakurax. im not definite about CAL but im sure that UCLA and others ucs will NOT reject you as long as you PASS all your last semester classes.

^
I only said that because one of my brother's close friends got into UCLA as a transfer student last year and got rejected at the end because he slacked off and got two C's (and if I'm not mistaken, they weren't required...ouchieee.)

it probably brought his overall gpa under 3.0
also what was his major?
