Counselor + Teacher references

I just wanted to ask if the Dec 31st deadline is a deadline for the submissions of documents from the students exclusively, or does it go for the recommenders too?
My teachers and couselor decided not to get down to it during term-time, and now I can't even get hold of them, so I'm really worried :/ Is it possible for them to submit their stuff later on?

Guys, can you please answer that? It’s really important. I my basically end up not sending my college app, because of my teachers.

It really depends on the school. Most schools consider the deadline to be the date by which recommendations have to be postmarked which means they don’t need to be received (by mail or online) until about 3 business days later. Some schools will allow even more leeway than that. Only a very few are really strict about having all materials in hand by the deadline. Is December 31 really the deadline for your schools? Most have a January 1 or 15 deadline. December 31 is unusual.

I am applying to Yale, and I’m an international student. The website says that the deadline is Dec 31st, so I’m really worried now :(

So do you know if Yale are terribly strict with these things? Do you think it could maybe be solved by emailing them?

Another issue is that I’m not sure if commonapp will let me send the rest of my app without the uploaded references, so I’m really freaking out now. Someone please help. :’(

You can quite definitely submit your application without waiting for the recs to be submitted. So long as you have assigned a counselor and the required teachers, you can submit. Teacher recs that are submitted later will be available to your colleges. Other than the potential issue with meeting the deadlinefrom the college’s perspective it doesn’t matter whether the recs are submitted before or after you submit your application.

As for Yale’s absolute deadline to receive the recs, yes it is fine to email admissions and ask that question. You could also post it in the Yale forum on cc.
