Counselor thank-you note

I've heard back from all the colleges I applied to. Would this be an appropriate time to write a thank-you note and give a gift to my counselor?

Should I wait until after the final-year reports are sent? (I think that's in June though). I don't think my counselor has to do anything else for me other than send the final year report.

It’s never a bad time for a thank-you note. Go ahead and do it now. It’ll make his/her day!

Sooner is better.

Absolutely. Double points if you add a sentence that begins something like this:
I especially appreciate… or You seem to…

If you just write the minimum, it still counts but isn’t as meaningful. My DD has had a formula tacked to her bulletin board since 6th grade:
Dear …,
…Thank you so much for …
… I especially enjoyed/appreciate/was thrilled by…
— You seem to. you always…
… I look forward to…
Sincerely,

Works REALLY well for (even for an ugly sweater), and makes the process faster and more effective.
