I heard that for some schools you need a recommendation from your counselor? Is this true? I'm already a sophmore and I haven't seen my counselor once yet because there's just simply nothing for us to talk about. What do you guys usually discuss with your counselor...? And how many counselors does your school have? We only have three.

Find something to talk about...get advice, even if you think you know everything, ask about new SAT, AP classes, whatever, get to know your counselor...ask about colleges, applications, ea or ed, that kind of thing...

yeah colleges do require counselor recs

at my school, though, the counselors don't do them. the school sends a letter saying that they want the student-counselor relationship to be totally open and the student not to have any reasons for not going to their counselor with any problems. and that's it. the usual reasons for going to a counselor are things like schedule changes, summer program / outside of school class reccommendations, college planning and prep, college search, stuff like that.

it seems kind of unneccessary to set up an appointment to ask questions about the new SAT if you actually don't need it. you could prob just stop by and ask your counselor about the rec process, the counselor prob has a form for you to fill out or some sort of meeting in order to write the rec. or maybe not and you will need to set up an appt later (like fall of sr year) to discuss the rec.
