Countdown to Acceptance Letters

Estoy nervioso y preoccupado

Si, asi que voy a mi computadora para felicidad.

Yes, so then I go to my computer for happiness. Just so these posts don’t get removed for non-English content
:D

I don’t know about them being finished or near finished. My Andover interviewer told me that each file at Andover is read five times. They’ve also only had some complete student profiles for 18 days or under as February 1 was the deadline for boarding applications - many even less time because I’m sure there were people who mailed the last of their stuff on the day before or after the deadline (Feb. 1 was a Sunday).

As for financial aid decisions, I think that process is probably made a whole lot easier for the schools by the SSS. Did anyone else get letters from them describing the EFC they were going to recommend to schools? I’d assume many of the schools use the recommendation and apply only a few changes.

It’s indeed possible that we’ve already been separated into some piles, but to me it just doesn’t seem as though they’ve had everyone’s files for too long. If we are already divided, though
let us hope we’re all in the ‘accepted’ or ‘accepted for sure’ piles!

20 days!

Oh, and “GTFOing” CC didn’t work for me.

I need to just admit it to myself: I’m an ADDICT.

My EFC was $138. What an oddly specific number! We’re so poor XD
Yeah, I mean, they’re close, they’ve at least seen the applications preliminarily. They only have 20 days left- it’s the halfway point for Andover, at least.

I was just thinking today that I don’t know if the FA office has all of our info. I was about to send an email to verify and then thought better of it. Depending on what pile my son is in, it may never even be looked at. :frowning:

I would imagine that they have two admit piles, one with FA and one without and they pare it down from there. Before anyone accuses me of being a cynic, I’m not! It’s just reality. Need-blind or not.

As far as being read five times
I doubt ALL of them are read five times. I imagine that there are some files that are put away after two or three readings. I mean, why read a file again that three of your colleagues have already decided against?

Wow! I just realized how incredibly NEGATIVE my last post was. I’m sorry.

I do agree with neatoburrito about the reading of files. if there is a person with 40% SSAT’s, needs FA, is in no honors classes (when all are offered) with a C- average, plays one sport (but not competitively) and supposedly plays an instrument well but sends in a recording that SUCKS, I don’t think they would bother reading the application anymore than 1 or 2 times.

starz27, do you really think there is such an applicant?

My interviewer said, “Around 92% of applications are actually completed. Around 70% of those are “in the running””. So, I’d have to say yes. Maybe some with 60% SSATs, or conduct issues(Let’s say they didn’t mention that their son killed hamsters when he was little until they had to put it on the application).

You called your interviewer and asked how many had been completed? Or did you have an interview recently?

I don’t think the schools are done reading the files yet. Yesterday my son received an email from the Director of Admissions at one of the schools to which he applied. The e-mail just said he finished reading the application, enjoyed it, and then shared a personal antecdote that related to my son’s essay. So, as of yesterday, at at least one school, applications were still being reviewed.

Hey neatoburrito - not negative, just realistic. I am riding the same emotional roller coaster that you are about admissions. While the above sounds great, this school has been very hands-on and “people friendly”. So, I don’t think it meant anything more than a standard follow-up on a file - but, I am hoping that puts him in the “70%” mentioned above. :-)

What school is this for? At a big school that is a great sign :). I got something like that from my interviewer from Milton but not any of the big schools (not necessarily any better or worse, some are bigger others are not).

My interviewer called my house two weeks after I interviewed and talked to my mom
My mother didn’t get to go on the interview/tour trip(We leave pretty far away) so she asked what she wanted. I was surprised that my mom was so concerned about those details. My interviewer called twice since feb 1.(I was at school)

The one thing that he stressed during both calls:
This is an incredibly competitive year, BUT this year presents an amazing opportunity for transfer students and full pay students. It’ll be a year where one amazing student is getting declined for another amazing student.

The reason people arn’t getting information is the ISL’s agreement(I assume many other schools respect this policy). The agreement is that basically no school contacts the applicants beyond, “Thanks you turned in your stuff”. There was a topic about this a few days ago

SPS mixed me up with another student
They sent me an email about that and stressed how hard it is to keep everything together during this time of the year
ESPECIALLY this year.

Realism is better than Optimism.

One of the HADES schools.

OK cool
That’s a good sign that they called you.

I don’t want to identify the school and call out my son for identification. The school is his top choice - even though it isn’t the “highest ranked” school that he applied to - so I don’t want to blow it for him in any way! I will tell you that it is not a NE school, is in the top 25 of “USN&W list” (for whatever that is worth) and is not an ISL school. THe ISL school sent an email the beginning of Feb, explaining their prohibition and told him not worry that his file was complete and would be thoroughly reviewed - form notice I am sure.

I bet that I’ll be in that 22% that get eliminated :P

But its okay because I’m cool like that :)

They probably saw my application come in and threw it away before opening the envelopes :(.

“This is an incredibly competitive year, BUT this year presents an amazing opportunity for transfer students and full pay students.”

Full pay students?
Damn.

now you guys are just fishing for compliments (viola and benevolent)
