Countdown to Acceptance Letters

20 more days

Well it depends on what the passions are, but the first one is probably better. Eventually in life, you need to focus in on one thing in particular. I think that it is vital to be well-rounded, but if you are somewhat well rounded having particular strengths can be extremely helpful in life…

Exactly. I think certain people who still do not have a passion (and it does show) have just as good a shot at BS, and top BS. These years are formative times in one’s life and I think once you show interest it is great. Being passionate comes of great use when someone in school XX needs someone of a specific skill set.

I think one of the major hooks that Italian has is that he is full pay. Unfortunately in this economic climate many great applicants will be passed over for equally great applicants his caller said. It’s my opinion that those applicants are the ones who are full pay. It’s also, as the caller said, a great year to be a transfer student (they are losing people who can’t afford to stay) . I noticed a huge difference in the attention son received from one school when we changed from full pay to a fin aid applicant…

Depends. If one can afford close to full pay and applies for FA he/she will not receive much anyway. What you said holds true for those who need significant FA. It probably will not matter at schools such as Exeter and Andover anyway.

I’m not full pay. Not anymore at least.

Viola… It actually holds true for alot. Schools would MUCH RATHER give 10 kids full aid than give 30 kids partial.
They want their average aid to be very high.

is it really a good year for transfer students?! YES.

I don’t like this. I am a full pay, but I don’t think that a family’s ability or inability to pay tuition should have an impact on the decision. It makes me angry when qualified students are unfairly rejected because of things that are out of his/her control. My family considered applying for FA, but our financial aid consultant determined that our family could afford 73 grand per kid per year. So we decided NOT to apply for aid as we would not qualify for it.

I heard something like 80% of candidates are applying for FA. True, this gives me an advantage, but it’s very much an unfair advantage, that I don’t feel good about accepting.

maybe I’m just being pessimistic but we had very encouraging personal attention from one bs and then as soon as the fa app went in it was like we became invisible. We are a borderline case- only need a small amount of aid- I thought this would be a plus since they could then offer small amounts of fa to more students… who knows?

I know what you mean benev, but you are such a good hearted person you shouldn’t feel bad- you deserve to get in for your stats - you can’t help it if you have a + in the financial column. Having a consultant is another plus that we couldn’t afford. Look at it this way- when you graduate and become rich you can donate to your school in order to help them become need blind! :)

Sorry Italian- based on the phone conversation you reported I assumed you were saying you were full pay- I’m sorry I posted wrong information about your status!

I was originally full pay!(you arn’t going crazy lol)
I’ll be borderline for about 40%ish. I’m really excited that I am applying for aid, because if I get enough and if I get in… My little brother may have the opportunity to have FOUR years of boarding school!

Yah, I could do that!

PA-C, what school ignored you? Is it Middlesex? I would find that hard to believe? You say that Middlesex is not need blind, but in their viewbook it actually says that they are need blind. It says this at the end of the viewbook. I’m sure it does.

Good for you italianboarder. My sister and I are both going to get 4 yrs BS and hopefully 4yrs College. My sis will hopefully be accepted to either Columbia or Duke, and I have my eye on Stanford!

Have you taken the PSAT? I regained my hopes of a college education after that… I scored pretty high and I got letters that were saying I have a legit shot at college.

:D 20 days… I’m bored and restless.

oh yes, 20 more days left. I’m on vacation right now but I’m still studying.hah.hah.

This thread is amazing. :]

I like to think of it as 14 more school days, because weekends go by quickly for me =]

I think of it as 20 more days to do the project.

If I get accepted to Exeter/Andover/Milton (other HADES, Choate, Groton, and St. Grottlesex are where else I applied but I only really care about E/A/M) I will not turn it in. Instead I will turn in my letter of admission!

Haha, I won’t care so much about the social aspects of school if I get accepted!

Neither will I!!!

All those popular kids can go think I give a crap  Once I get accepted I will be living in a dream :D
