I’m relatively lucky, there are no other students from my school applying to Columbia. But if I don’t get in, I’m applying to NYU, Sarah Lawrence, Ithaca, Syracuse, SUNY Stony Brook, and SUNY Oswego. I actually already applied to Stony Brook, their deadline was yesterday.

Mid-december. That’s like Dec 12-18.

Can’t be past 12/15. Thats the ED Decision deadline.

Yesterday I asked someone in the FA office about the dates and she said she was only authorized to confirm 12/15. :/

If this helps at all, my older son was rejected at his first choice school. It was devastating because he was sure of all the reasons why he wanted to go there and how the other schools on his list were inferior.

After being at the school he ended up at for a time, he found out more about the first choice school that he couldn’t have previously known about and discovered that where he was provided much more than he had initially given it credit for. It turned out he had been lucky to have gotten in there and rejected at the first choice school.

Obviously, Columbia is wonderful and anyone being accepted there is indeed lucky, but the feeling that it’s the only place that would do for you might be largely based on the intense build up of stress for this application process. So many people find they are very happy where they end up and aren’t ultimately sorry at all they didn’t get in the first choice school.

Maybe this doesn’t help right now, but it’s something to keep in mind. It’s meant to be helpful.

transparenteye- at my school about 5 people are applying to CU, including one girl who I feel is much more qualified than I am… haha it sucks. But besides Columbia I’m trying a few Ivies for the heck of it, in addition to NYU, BC, and a few others.

pleaaaaaase be December 10th! If I hear back before the 12th and get in, I can cancel an interview with another school (yay for laziness!)

did anyone get a response when you e-mailed the fin-aid guy back? should I call if they don’t return my e-mail in a couple of days or are they just super busy?

chance me please : )

well, if it was the 15th, i’d have 5 more days to do the other college apps :P

I have no co-competitors for Columbia; if I make it in, I think I’ll be the first from my school ever to go Ivy. :/

ur so lucky! there are 3 kids from my school, including me applying to the college and 1 applying to engineering? am i still competing against the person applying to engineering?

Is it even necessarily competition? My friend is applying too, we go to the same school and have a few of the same ECs, but overall we’re pretty different applicants. Can’t we both be accepted?

jalinovi, I’ve heard that they don’t like to accept a lot of people from the same school for the sake of getting a good variety of people. But if you and your friend are both qualified and you don’t come off as being identical, you could still both have a chance. It’s not like there’s twelve of you or anything.

Also, regarding decision date: someone on the other thread mentioned that they called admissions and were told we’ll be e-mailed Monday regarding when decisions will be posted. So Thursday-ish sounds like it could be the day. I’m getting into super uber freak out time.

It seems like Dartmouth and Columbia are the only two early Ivy schools that haven’t set concrete decision dates yet. Cornell, Penn, Brown, and Yale all know already. :(

I think we should all relax!!! If we have the credentials to apply ED to Columbia, then we definitely have the credentials to attend other AMAZING schools! Also, if a rejection letter does come in the mail, everything happens for a reason, and I also suggest finishing apps THIS WEEKEND! So that blues are not interfering with other applications. Us CC’ers would get along so well together though at Columbia, hehe :)

@raychacha
Sounds about right. I guess I feel a little relief

i dont feel aaaany relief. one of the girls applying has the hgihest avg in the grade. im just lucky i have the highest sats, but i still dont feel confident. but theyre all more science-math, and im more of a social studies-english(that may help) im just venting thanks all for listening

aside from me, two other people are applying ED to columbia. i know they both have higher GPAs than i do because i had a huge family “change” and moved during sophomore year. but last year’s and my first quarter grades are all As…so i hope i redeemed myself!

i hope columbia doesnt look TOO strongly on rank and GPA because mine are not accurate.

i don’t think, however, that columbia compares students from the same school…

to ur last statement, wg90210, my counselor has said to me, and to the other people applying, “I don’t think they will take all 4”-doesn’t think that from one school, they will take every single applicant because they are trying to be more inclusive of the entire country and give more opportunities to other schools as well

Well given that ED acceptance is about 20%, they’d statistically only accept one out of four, if that. Maybe you’re counselor was trying to say that?

I don’t know… it seems like, yeah, they want students from all over the world, but that doesn’t seem like a game changer to me.

i hear you. honestly, i hope all four of us get in but we’re all trying to be a little realistic.
