Countdown to Move-in Day

I don’t remember Choate mailing my placement tests… I’m pretty sure I took them online… but that could be just me

@Justagirl3847: I love all these answers! :slight_smile: Haha, yes, I’m a girl.

So Nichols and Putnam’s rooms are similar-the only difference is the number of girls? Because the quality of the rooms matters a lot to me as well…I’d hate to get into a dorm like Squire.

So how do you get into AP classes? By maintaining a B+ average in your Honors classes? Or by taking all the prerequisites?

Is it possible to get into an AP class during third form? Haha, see what I did there? See? Getting used to the Choate lingo! Wait, third form means ninth grade, right?

Thanks!

I got accepted into Choate as an incoming freshman! (unless I’m dreaming) This seems like a very informative thread, and I have a few questions. I’m going to kind of copy GoldenRatio’s format here, hope you don’t mind.

Can you visit only on the three scheduled revisit days? I’ve heard they are in April this year, which is after our spring break. I would have to miss several days of school since we live pretty far out. It’s not that I can’t go then, it would just be easier in late March.

Is it difficult to get into the math course you would regularly go to? I’m taking Honors Algebra 2 this year, at our local high school. I’d really like to take Honors Precalculus this year, but I don’t know if they’d let me or if it would be too difficult.

**How many (if any) honors courses would you recommend for the first year? And if you take a non-honors course, can you switch to an honors/AP course the next year? ** I don’t want to stress myself out too much this first year…

Thanks!

Anyone going to the March 28 Hotchkiss revisit?

@weiqian: Haha, I don’t mind at all! Type away! :slight_smile: Choate’s revisit days are April 2, 4, and 8.

@confusedonhades: I’m sorry if this thread is being dominated by Choate…actually, wait, I’m not that sorry; this thread is so informative! But I’m sorry, nevertheless.

Oh- and how do you do the smileys? I know this has nothing to do with Choate, but I’m curious!

Ta-da! Your guide to making emoticons! ;)

@GoldenRatio Thanks- you’re brilliant! :)

@weiqian: No problem! Glad to be of some help. :cool:

How do students go about creating a club? I would really like to create an Indian dance group similar to the one at Exeter (Shakti), but I’m not sure how I would go about recruiting people, scheduling times for practice, etc…

@FutureExonion15: My tour guide said that it was pretty easy to create a club at Choate…to recruit people for it may be harder. :p

GoldenRatio it’s no problem at all. I’m really happy for your that you got into Choate :slight_smile: congrats!

creating a club on campus is pretty simple. It’s just maintaining it can be difficult. Basically you speak to the COSA (Committee of Student Activities), which is a group of kids who monitor all the clubs on campus (I’m actually applying for COSA now!!). You have to fill out some pieces of paper, get a couple people to join your club, and COSA will help you with the times your club can meet and stuff. Also you can promote your club at events that we have on campus like Harvest Fest.

Thanks!

If there isn’t one already, I strongly suggest starting a facebook group for new students starting at … I did it for Westminster, originally for people from another online forum but once decisions started coming in people will search for groups like this. And it’s so much less nervewracking starting somewhere where you’ve already talked to people :)

@UKgirl23: I would, but my parents outright ban social media in my household. Getting a Google+ was difficult enough! …wait, who wants to make a Google+ group? :D

@confusedonhades: Hahaha, thanks! :slight_smile: Did you hear form Hotchkiss yet? Any good news? I know there will be!

Just got my Choate acceptance package! does little happy dance

GoldenRatio: yup! Just got the package today. No FA but that’s okay, we weren’t expecting any. I think I still might go there. But I still need to hear from Hill.

@confusedonhades: How much FA do you need, then?

What all comes in the Choate Acceptance package?
