Countdown to Move-in Day

I don’t go to choate, but I went for two summers and some of the dorms are great! I was also accepted for next fall.

Girls:
Soho (Bernhardt): one of the newer dorms, for sophomores, larger dorm (I think 50-60 girls),laundry machines in basement, really awesome facilities. It looks like a hotel! There are singles and doubles, a two-level common room with lots of windows, and a balcony. It’s just a great dorm.

Homestead: senior girls dorm. It’s a pretty old, but it’s really nice. It looks like a home, (I think) it houses around twelve girls, there are fireplaces in some of the rooms (which you can’t use), a cozy common room, large rooms, and “secret stairways” in the back that you can use to sneak around after curfew. Good location – it’s around the center of campus, pretty close to most classes and the SAC.
Archbold is supposed to be pretty good too, but I’m not that familiar with it

The dorms above the dining hall are nice (and convenient in the winter), but some of those rooms are TINY. I saw a single room in one of them being used as a double, and the beds were nearly touching.

I stayed in Mead and McCook. Mead is…interesting.(senior girls) The rooms are big, and there aren’t that many girls, but there are a good amount of bugs :/. On the bright side, it’s pretty much in the center of the campus and the dorm advisor is amazing.

McCook is next to the arts center, I’m not really sure if juniors or sophomores live there. It looks really nice on the outside, there are two common rooms, two fridges, and plenty of space. Close to the science center and across from the sac.

Girls:
Nathan Hale: large two room doubles as well as 3 room triples. Other dorms who are near campus say we had the best common room(piano,tv,fridge,ping pong and foosball table) and some of the biggest rooms. Large dorm(30-40) girls. In Pine Knoll Circle so a little walk from Paresky and the other buildings but right near GW
Day Hall: good in you want to be right next to Paresky but has smaller rooms and common room. Newer dorm though and shorter walk to Sam Phil, Paresky, Morse, and Gelb.

@weiqian just bugs in general, mainly mosquitos but also really creepy looking bugs (not sure what they were)
When I was there, we had an exterminator come over, and then the problem was solved. The group of girls that I was living with weren’t exactly cleanly though…

St. Paul’s

There are 18 different dorms, do you want all of them, or the best?

ChoateStudents:

When the dress code says yes to white jeans, will they say yes to black jeans as well? I hardly have any legitimate pants, only jeans and sweats. All my jeans are blue and black-there’s only one pair of white. Would Choate accept black jeans? :)

Im more worried about clothes than bs itself… haha

OMG! I was just thinking the same haha. I wouldn’t want to get in trouble just for clothes…but the handbook clearly states that only white jeans would be acceptable and any other color wouldn’t be. :/

@FutureExonian15

Where are you enrolling?

Anyone started their room shopping yet? Just ordered my bedding :)

nope… I dont even know what I should get… I guess I’ll ask when I revisit NMH, is there some thread about room shopping?

I’m totally clueless :(

Not that I know of, but from what I have learned on CC, a lot of people make their dorms feel like home.So, bringing your country’s flag or any posters or blankets are a good idea. Just don’t go out and buy furniture until you move in and know what you need and how much space you have.

I guess bedding is a good option to start with then :slight_smile: I’l visiting NMH in 2 weeks, I’ll ask a lot of things!

@florencez734 im going april 4-5 ^^

Mexstudent: Choate

Buy your bedding online or in stores before mid August. You’ll need Twin XL (EXTRA LONG) mattress pad, sheets (2 sets plus standard pillow cases) and a comforter. After mid August the selection is depleted because college students need the same stuff!

I usually go to a Home Goods, TJ Maxx or Marshalls early- mid July and find nice brands like Ralph Lauren, Nautica, and others at a great price! Macys has a nice selection online, too. Also- you may want to look into a Twin XL foam pad for greater comfort!

Shop before mid August and you should be fine! And make sure what you buy is well made and durable!!

DressCodeProblems

I’m worring more about the clothes than the school as well! :smiley:

Unfortuneately, I’m one of those people who hate wearing clothes with logos plastered on them (it makes me think of shameless advertising), so Ralph Lauren, etc, is out. I just have an arsenal of solid-colored shirts and sweaters, with no decoration, haha.

I’m just going to bring some pillows I stitched, and see if I can finish a quilt over summer vacation. :slight_smile: Sewing is very calming.

@GoldenRatio- I love the quilt idea!! Just make sure the twin sheets are XL or they won’t fit your new bed.
