I'll be in a miniscule village in Germany and won't hear about my decisions until (and if) my family is able to call me. Argh!

Kebree, here is where I regret not applying:
-UVa
-UNC
-Wake Forest
-and maybe Yale? I don't know; I had a strong negative reaction to it initially, but to be honest that might have been New Haven.

I think a lot of my regret is just decision anxiety. But it's funny you should mention it, as I do seriously wish I had applied to UVa; one of my best friends is applying there for architecture. Last September when she told me where she was applying, I didn't really know anything about the school and wasn't interested. Oh, the agonies of stumbling across CC too late!! ;)

UVa extended its deadline to the 24th, so it's still possible. That would be a really good option for you, I think. It's the first non-Ivy school I'd go to. It's so beautiful, steeped in all kinds of traditions, and not that large (13,000 students).....I'd be excited to go there even if it had to follow a Princeton rejection.

Plus, the Echols scholars program (their honors program) is outstanding. That and the Jefferson program have Rhodes scholars quite often (2 this year).

It did?! Excellent!! Add that to my list of weekend activities, on top of massive midterm studying. Oh boy!!! ;) Finally some legitimately good news. Despite the sarcasm in this paragraph, an honest thanks, Kebree.

Seriously, time to put out the feelers on the parental units. "Hey Mum? You know when I said I was done with all my college applications? Well..."

Seems like college and the related dilemmas are the never-ending fodder of senior year.

Why did they extend their deadline to such a late date?

I don't know. They just sent me an email about it. I think they might not have gotten as many apps this year (at least I hope that was the case ;) ).

Their app wasn't that time-consuming, don't worry. They even have you do your own Mid-Year Report (just fill in courses and grades and then sign the Honor Statement) and the recs only have to be letters (no rec forms) so your teachers will be happy...

Wow, I just realized I posted this on the wrong thread entirely. I meant to post it on the "Message to all Princeton dreamers or applicants... " thread, where Kebree commented:

You should have applied to UVa, Kat! It would probably be a good personality fit judging by your other picks.

Normally I wouldn't randomly spew my college life saga on the countdown thread..... ;)

Phew, that's reassuring about the app. Didn't want nightmares tonight of two-feet stacks of paper dancing in my head!

Here is the email:
[quote]
Dear [Kat],

We are extending the deadline for applying for admission to the University of
Virginia to Monday, January 24, 2005. Applications must be post-marked or submitted
on-line by that date. If you need a paper application, please respond to this
e-mail and we will send you a copy, or you can download it and print it from
our website: http://www.virginia.edu/undergradadmission/apply.html.

Because our materials about AccessUVa did not reach the high schools until just
before the holidays, you may not have heard about the program and how it can
help you. For this reason, I am extending the deadline three weeks in order
to give you time to look at the materials and see if you wish to apply to Virginia.
In addition to the materials sent to the schools, there is a detailed description
of AccessUVa on our website: http://www.virginia.edu/accessuva/index.html.

AccessUVa is a new financial aid program at the University of Virginia which
makes it possible for low income students to enroll here and graduate with little
or no debt. The second part of it is a cap on loans for middle income students.
The amount of the cap will be approximately $16,000 and will be the total amount
of loans for the four years of college. The normal admission requirements will
apply, but in the event that you have been thinking about applying to U.Va. and
have been concerned about the cost, I would urge you to call the Student Financial
Services Office toll-free at (866) 391-0063 or the Admission Office at (434)
982-3200. We look forward to talking with you.

If you have already applied or are not a senior this year, please disregard this
message.

Sincerely,

John Blackburn
Dean of Admission

Okay.....I hadn't read that whole email because I'd already sent my app when it arrived. I guess it DOES explain the switch. :)

Thanks, Kebree. Lifesaver, seriously (if just in terms of peace of mind - this helps so much).

grabs a flute of the e-champagne from the other thread and floats some lifesaver candy in it

I did think it was weird how I got the brochure for Virginia two days AFTER my break had started.

Make that e-champagne sweet, that's the ticket. ;)

grrr... I hate countdowns!

76 days...

Why did everyone bash Kebree for starting this countdown? I started mine at around 90 days lol.

It's actually much easier this time because it's not just ONE school, so April 1ish will be quite exciting. I return to school from spring break like April 4 or something so I'll have some time to recover, but I'm not doing anything for the second week of break so the days of doing nothing will intensity the anxiety I think.

Yayy Kat1! Apply to UVa. That's awesome.
Their $16,000 cap on loans doesn't seem like such a big deal when you consider that for in-staters, their tuition per year is like $4,000 anyway lol.

well, do you expect to have a likely letter? that would be great, huh?

75 days, heh. I too started a countdown at 90. 15 days gone, wow. This will be a quicker wait than I thought, honestly. Guys, let's just enjoy our senior year. Que sera sera.

A little over 10 weeks. (That doesn't seem as long as 72 days. :))

Isn't it a bit too early for a countdown?

not at all. come on, you're having your own personal countdown too. =)

No one's forcing you to click on this thread, merc. :)
