Coupla Pre-law Questions

At the current moment, I think that after recieving my degree I will want to go to law school. I don't really know how to go about preparing for this, so I have a couple of questions.

What would be the "ideal" major for admissions/success in law school?

What schools (outside of HYPS) would give me the best chance to get into a great law school?

I'm only a senior in high school, so I've got lots of time to prepare.

First off, you will probably change your mind. Most kids do.

Major in whatever you are interested in. Just make sure you fulfill any requirements, and you'll be fine. Possible (more conventional) majors include: Political Science, Government, International Relations, Philosophy, etc. You can really major in whatever you want. Anyway, the chances are your major will end up being in the same sort of field, as opposed to majoring in Architecture or Chemistry while doing pre-law.

If you do well in college, you will be fine for law school. There are tons of great law schools all over the country, and they all accept kids from all different types of colleges, from small LACs to huge state schools. Remember, Michigan has one of the very best law schools in the nation and is a state school.

Concentrate on excelling in your studies, and you will be fine.

the undergrad school you go to has little to no bearing on what grad school you get into. law school is basicly a gpa and lsat composite. doesn't matter where you go. If you know that you want to go to law school as soon as you graduate, and you're parents are willing to do this, go to a cheap undergrad school (or a school where you got a full ride) and just do extremely well. Then see if your parents will pay for grad school instead of undergrad. Not a bad deal considering law school is only 3 years...instead of paying for 4 years of undergrad.
