couple of quick questions

a couple of hours after i sent in my app., i recieved an e-mail saying that they've recieved my app. and are looking forward to looking at it. does this mean that they've recieved all my things (transcript, SAT/ACT scores, teacher/counseler rec.) or only my app.?

also...

how important is the counseler rec. letter to u-mich? i'm pretty sure that my teacher rec. letter is going to range from like decent to excellent cuz she knew me really well and really liked me, but i didn't really know my counseler that well. how much of an impact is that gonna have on my chances of getting admitted?

and...

how important are essays?

and finally...

i took the october SAT and the scores come out tom.. how will i be able to send these scores in to u-mich? i know that on the day i took the test, there wuz an option for me to send the score to any college/university that i wanted, but i missed it. so can i still send my score in or not?

thanks!

No, only your app.

They’re one of those things that can help you if theyr’e really great, but won’t really hurt you if they’re generic. I’m sure the app readers at U of M know that counselors sometimes have to write hundreds of letters, and they may be a bit generic.

Not.

Does U of M have an older test score from you? If not, then you might miss the ER deadline, but I’m not positive. If college board actually sends it out tomorrow then you should be fine because the postmarked date will be before November 1st. If U of M already has an older score from you, then you’re fine, they’ll just admit you anyways, or wait for your new score.

first of all…

so the essays don’t really that much of a difference?

and…

i took the SAT previously in march and i sent that score already. i got the october SAT score today and i did decent on it, so should i sent it to u-mich? if so, should i do the rush or the reg. shipping method?

and finally…

i also made out a resume and i sent it in with my app. on the “additional docs.” part of the app… was it okay that i did sent it in this way or should i have sent it in a different way?

thanks!

No they’re not very important. If your stats are good, then a bad essay won’t keep you out. My essays were terrible.

Yeah definitely send it to them. If your old score is good enough, then they’ll admit you. If not, then they’ll wait for the new score to arrive. UMich says they don’t accept rushed scores so just do reg I guess? Not sure about that…

It’s fine, that’s pretty much the only way to do it. I just had a bulleted list of random info for my additional info section, but I’m sure a resume is better.

if my stats were bad and my essays were good, does this mean that my essays will increase my chances of getting in or does u-mich not really care about essays at all?

thanks!

^Yeah, a good essay can help you out if you have borderline stats. Either way, you should just to make your essay as nice and polished as you can. Just don’t stress too much :)

Test scores have to be RECEIVED by the 1st of November, not postmarked, for early response.

I submitted my app on the 26th of October, and all of my documents have been received, including my SAT scores, with the exception of my TOEFL scores which have been sent out today (oct.30).

When I previously asked the office about the postmark issue, they told me that all materials would be suitable for ER if they are POSTMARKED by the 1st of November, but now they say that for TEST SCORES, they would have to be RECEIVED by the 1st of November to be qualified as an ER applicant.

That pretty much screwed up my application being reviewed by ER.

^Oh sorry, I thought it was postmark date for test scores too. Anyways, he already sent in his old score so a new late test score won’t prevent his app from being ER.

i sent in my old score like a week ago, but i sent it in through the rush method. will u-mich accept that or not? plus, i sent in my october SAT score yesterday, except i chose the reg. method, so will they accept that?

thanks!
