Hi, I am new here, and I am not sure if this is the right place for my questions, but I couldn't find a part of the forum dedicated to questions.

1: How big of a difference does it make coming from a private school from a public school? My college advisor tells me that since the courses are harder, colleges accept lower GPAs. How true is this? Do private schools have an advantage in that aspect?

2: I have a learning disability, and the tests to prove it. Does having a learning disability help in the application process?

Thanks in advance.

Many schools divide up their admissions people regionally and those people are familiar with the high schools in their regions, so they know which ones are particularly rigorous, whether they are public or private. This might translate into a GPA from a more rigorous school being considered equal to a hight GPA at a less rigorous school. The learning issue is complicated----in the parent forum there is a lot of talk about it and in the admissions forum, so you might want to search for threads in those two places. Part of the issue will be considering which schools will be most supportive and the answer might be a smaller school.

Your school’s college advisor should be able to tell you what the outcomes were like during the past few years at your HS for students with a similar academic profile to yours.
