Hi, quick question. Do other people have the 06-07 catalogue, because the one that they gave me during Discovery Weekend was the 05-06 one. I'm not sure how i'll be able to plan some of my courses with a "dated" catalogue.

The course catalog doesn't change very much. The course schedule does, of course, change every semester. I'm not sure when it will be up on BannerWeb...come to think of it, since all the upper classmen have already scheduled, it should be up.

D was given the year-behind course catalog when she visited too. It's not a big deal.

The course schedule for this fall is up...go to the Smith website, click on academics, click on course catalogs, and then click on schedule of classes. :)

thank you!... oh also, as a first year, are we only allowed to take the 100 courses?

There's no rule, but I'd look at the requirements. Some departments require you to take a 100-level course first, and other classes have no prereqs.

You don't have to take 100 level courses, but you usually can't take 300 levels because they mostly have prereqs (and they're wicked tough). Some profs for the higher levels will ask you about what kind of preparation you have for their class (I took a 230 English, and my prof wanted to know what APs I had taken in literature). Also, I would reccommend not trying to do a lot of 200 level courses right at the beginning (one is fine, two is stretching it, and more than two is not advisable in the least). They really do have either more work, or higher standards for work, than the 100 levels.

Also, you will get a paper course catalog at orientation, but it will have the same things as the online one.
