Course change!!

im a senior who just got accepted to cornell cals..
on my application, my second semester schedule has calculus, international business, and chemistry..
but im trying to change my schedule..i want to take physics instead of international business.
i think this wont be such a big problem since my intented major is biological sciences, but what should i do to let cals know of this change in course change?
thanks alot in advance.

First of all, I didn't even get a schedule when I got accepted into CALS-bio. I had to wait until I met with my student advisor and she pre-enrolled me for my bio classes. I don't know what they have changed from then, but most likely, wait until you get assigned a student or a faculty advisor and ask them. AND there is also something called ADD/DROP which occurs right before the semester starts. You log on to Just the Facts and type in the code for the class you want to add and it gets added to your schedule, and then you drop the courses you don't want. After this semester, all course choices will be up to you, with some input from your advisor. You can email someone in the advising office now just to be sure, but I honestly wouldn't worry about your schedule until orientation week.

Secondly, if you want to be a bio major, then why aren't you taking intro bio? If you are placing out with AP credit, that should be ok, but don't take calculus, physics, and chemistry together!!!!! That's suicide for a freshmen and I doubt your advisor would even let you (unless they are too busy to care). I've seen so many freshmen struggle with bio, chem, and calc together. You should really start off with an easy schedule your first semester so you can learn how to cope with the difficulty and stress (I don't mean to scare you, but you will need a little time to adjust). My first semester, I took intro bio, chem, a writing seminar, and intro sociology. I don't know much about international business, but if you don't want to take that then I would suggest, chem, calculus, writing, and an elective, maybe psych101.

I think the OP meant a HS class change.

(in that case, I'd email someone in admissions just to make sure that it's ok, explaining the same way you did here).

You should have your high school guidance counselor call on your behalf. I'm curious though - how can you change to physics mid-year? Isn't it a full-year course?

i was talking about hs class change.!!haah thanks neways.
and im studying in canada . so i guess the system is a bit different.

Tahoe I know that AP physics constitutes two seperate semester courses, and you can choose to only take one (in my school at least)

I would ask first... send them an email or call. I have a friend who got into Columbia ED and he wanted to switch classes. They emailed him back and told him that he wasn't allowed to switch classes since they take into consideration what classes you are taking in the future. You definitely don't want this to affect your acceptance.

my schedule changed too and i didn't bother lol. cause when i filled my application i wasn't sure of what classes id take in spring so i just wrote some stuff in which didn't happen competely for the spring term but it doesn't matter

Why why why why why are you trying to switch INTO physics for the second semester of your senior year???

to help her prepare for college physics i guess

yea i want to prepare myself for college physics.
i tried to avoid taking physics..but i have to take one in college so it would help me alot in hs to take one..
do u think cornell would care about my international business class???

I was just wondering, are you REALLY gonna be up for physics during your second semester, when all you'll feel like doing is slacking off?
But anyway, no, I don't think they'd care about your business class. It's a little weird that your school offers one-semester physics... in any case, just one semester likely won't look much better than business.

im studying in canada, so the system is different i think.
here, we only have one-semester courses.
for example, i would have bio, math,,etc in first semester, and then move onto second semester with calculus, physics,,etc.

each of those classes are worth 1 credit.

In my son's admission packet, it states "Should you encounter a situation where you are not able to complete course work in progress or you need to adjust your current course load, please speak first with your guidance counselor and then contact the admissions office at Cornell." I can't imagine that Cornell would have a problem with the switch, but I would do as they suggest.

thanks alot!
my admission packet is still not here!
maybe cuz im in canada...
has anyone from outside of states receive their packet?

I haven't received my packet yet and I'm from Boston

I haven't received my financial aid packet yet and I live 45 miles from Ithaca. However, I did get a letter saying I will be receiving it soon.

oops. i just realized you were talking about the acceptance letter, not the financial aid. sorry.

I believe that the courses you type into Common Application do NOT show up on the app, or in other words, Cornell doesn't see what you've anticpated to take for your next term.
