Would you advise taking Biology 1A, Chem 1A, and Math 1A during the first semester? That's already 11 units right there...

That should be on the border of "OK" if you make the last course a 2 unit seminar or a non weeder course.

No, you don't want to take Bio 1A! Do your Bio 1A-1B sequence after your first semester.

Just take care of Chem 1A and Math 1A.

In order to do Bio 1A, you need to have taken or be concurrently enrolled in Chem 3A which is Organic chemistry. Also, Bio 1A requires concurrent enrollment in bio 1AL.

So again, don't do biology your first semester at Cal! Take it easy your first semester!

(You should take a class that fulfills your Reading and Composition requirement and also get into a seminar.)

thanks a lot for ur advice. Well, I'm a pre-med so i thought taking bio and chem classes early on could take care of the requiements. The things is , I was gonna take physics 8a/8b during sophomore year so i can be prepared for MCAT the summer after sophomroe year. What do you think, effielguy?

I'm not Pre-Med, so please do check in with an adviser.

However, the general consensus is that taking biology during your first semester at Cal is not the best idea in the world (since you're a freshman...if you're a transfer, it's a different story).

According to the Letters and Sciences, they recommend that during your fall semester at Berkeley as a first year, you take Math 16A or 1A, and Chem 1A. During your Spring Semester, they recommend Math 16B or 1B, and Chem 3A.

I know students who are taking their MCATs the summer after their junior (3rd year) at Cal.
