Course Hero Internship

I am a junior in college and applied for a internship with Course Hero as a Business Development Intern. if anyone else has had this internship could they please share their experience with me. I haven't had any internship and this will be my first on. I am a management major at smith school of business. I think this internship could help me build my resume and get a better job once I have a degree. I wanted to do internships with companies like google and apple but those are extremely hard to get. I would like to work in the technology sector as a product manager or someone who is in charge of developing the next isomething. I have gotten a interview with Course Hero so does that mean they like my resume and credentials? Please give me some advice.

Hi businessdude11,

I am a current Business Development Intern for Course Hero. Let me share my experience with you:

I recently joined the Business Development Internship program for Course Hero in late June of this year. Upon acceptance, I was given a list of courses that needed to be filled with academic materials. As a result, I had to connect with as many students as possible from my university and have them upload their class notes, essays, practice exams, and study guides on to the Course Hero platform. You are given a weekly goal of completing 5 courses. I have encountered several challenges because I am not on campus for the summer. Thus, I have limited communication with fellow students and I am now operating from a remote location. However, I have been able to address this issue by connecting with friends and students from my university through Facebook, emails, texts, and phone calls. This internship program has started to improve my communication skills due to the constant communication with students. As a result of the challenges, my analytical and creativity skills have started to refine because I had to be analytical and creative to generate and implement my own strategies to meet my weekly goals from a remote location.

To answer your question, yes, they like your resume and credentials. Your resume and credentials is what led to an interview offer from Course Hero.

I can honestly say that my experience as a Business Development Intern for Course Hero has been very positive. You are able to work the hours you want to complete your weekly goals. Therefore, it’s very flexible. It’s also perfect if you’re looking to refine your communication, leadership, and analytical skills, which are the 3 key ingredients to be successful in the business world. Furthermore, it’s the key ingredients that employers desire in a candidate.

I hope this helps!

Kind regards,

CHintern

Hi CHintern,

First, thank you for your detailed and informative discussion on your experience as a Course Hero intern. Its sounds like a great experience and I am excited to join if I am accepted. It seems you are able to work from home on this internship. In the e-mail I got from Course Hero they said all work in done on campus and you are supposed to report to the Director of Campus Operations. I live off-campus so I am hoping that not all the work is done on-campus. Please let me know how this works. Also, is this a good internship for me if I want to get into the technology industry since it is a e-learning site? Thank you again for your great response.

At the risk of sounding stupid, can someone tell me what course hero is? I’ve never heard of it sorry.

Hi businessdude11,

Sorry for the late reply. I had a very busy schedule this weekend.

Yes, the work should normally be done on campus because you will have more access to communication with fellow students. You need to have students submit class notes, essays, practice exams, and study guides to the Course Hero platform. Thus, it’s easier to have more students contribute their academic documents if you’re on campus communicating with them face-to-face. You can easily achieve this by speaking with your classmates right after class. I highly suggest that you join a club at school if you’re not already in one to meet more students and have them contribute their own academic documents. However, you can meet your weekly goals from home using a social network to connect with students from your university, but this will just make it harder for you. You can basically work anywhere that allows you to get in touch with your classmates. This is a very flexible internship.

Yes, you will need to report to the Director of Campus Operations. However, it doesn’t need to be a face-to-face communication. You can simply report to the Director of Campus Operations through Skype or phone calls. As of now, I’ve been reporting to the Director of Campus Operations through phone calls.

To answer your question, yes, this internship has the potential to get you into the technology industry. I feel that it can help you get any job because you gain the three key characteristics that employers desire in a candidate, which is communication, leadership, and analytical skills. It’s more than likely that you will sometimes work in groups in a job from the technology industry. Thus, you need to have the communication skills to work effectively with your group. Furthermore, you might even need to be your group’s leader and you will definitely need analytical skills to solve problems and meet your company’s goals. These are the three key ingredients that you can expect to acquire from the Course Hero internship.

I hope this helps!

Kind regards,

CHintern

Man, does this sound like a corporate shill or does this sound like a corporate shill.

Hi CHintern,

Thanks for your detailed answer they are great. My interview is by phone tomorrow so I am getting ready for that. Since I live off campus I will probrably be more comfortable using social media for communicating with students. Hope this internship is going well for you and keep me updated on how it helps you in your career.

Hi Malikwal,

Course Hero is a website for students to share and access their study materials like lecture notes, powerpoints, and practice problems. Here is the link to their website:
[Course Hero | Study Guides, Lecture Notes, Flashcards, Practice Exams, Lecture Videos | The best way to expand your education](http://www.coursehero.com/)

Hi RacinReaver,

Course Hero is a relatively small company so they need people to help them grow by getting study documents for them. It is a paid internship so it is a good opportunity and it is on-campus.

Hi businessdude11,

Thank you for the kind words. Good luck with your phone interview! I’m sure you will do great!

Keep me updated with your success.

Kind regards,

CHintern

Hi CHintern,

The interview went well and I have been moved to the next step before the final selection. I have to answer this question about how I can use my personal skills and knowledge of the campus to help the knowledge drive. Do they select more than one person per campus? Like how much competition is there for this position and how well does it look on your resume?

I also got a packet about the internship details. The compensation is based on how many documents you get people to upload however, they dont pay you after 11+ documents. How hard was it for you to get 11+ documents for on course and how much do they pay for the projects you do after the classes are finished. I was also wondering what are the projects about and how much do you learn from them. Are they based on working closely with Course Hero HQ in California or at your own location?

They said that they give great recommendations and connect you within Silicon Valley so I am hoping this internship will add alot to my resume.

I know I have just thrown alot of information at you but your the only one who knows about this so far on this forum. Thanks alot for all your help so far and Ill keep you updated on how this goes.

Hi businessdude11,

Congratulations on being advanced to the next step! I’m not sure if multiple students are selected for each campus. I was told there were over 30 applicants from my school, so it’s a bit competitive.

Regarding the compensation, you don’t need to have 11+ documents to be compensated. To be compensated, you need to have at least 5 documents uploaded to a single course. Once you reach 11+ documents for that same course, you will no longer be compensated for it.

As I mentioned last time, I’m not currently on campus for the summer; therefore, I have limited communication with my fellow classmates. I am currently operating from a remote location, so it’s been more difficult for me to achieve my goals. I’ve addressed this issue by connecting with students through Facebook, texts, emails, and phone calls. Furthermore, I’ve developed and implemented strategies to be able to obtain academic materials and meet my goals. As of now, I’m doing good despite operating from a remote location. However, the internship will be much easier once I head back to campus for the fall semester.

In regards to the projects, I haven’t reached that step yet, so I don’t have much information on it. I believe it’s the second stage of the internship. I’m going to look into that to get more information on it.

I believe this internship is solid for a resume because of its uniqueness. No other internship allows interns to gain solid experience and help children abroad. This gives you something to talk about in an interview.

Good luck with the next step and let me know how it goes!

Kind Regards,

CHintern

Hi CHintern,

I got accepted as a intern and will start in the fall semester! Thanks for all your help through this process. I will be going for vacation soon so I wont be on college confidential for a while. Please keep me updated on how your internship goes and good luck with everything.

Hi businessdude11,

Congratulations on being accepted to Course Hero’s internship program! I’m sure you will be very successful as a Course Hero intern.

If you ever need any help or advice, feel free to contact me. I can even share with you some of the strategies I’ve implemented to meet my weekly goals.

Enjoy your vacation! Where are you going, by the way?

Kind regards,

Your friend, CHintern

Hi CHintern,

I was recently asked to do a phone interview with course hero. I was just wondering what the compensation was for completing the weekly goal assigned
Thank you

Hi Bball5,

Congratulations on making it to the first step!

I apologize for the late response, but I’ve had a very tight schedule these past few weeks.

To answer your question, there is not a fixed salary. You are compensated based on the amount of courses you complete per week.

I hope this helps!

Kind regards,

CHintern

CHintern & businessdude11,
I recently got an email to set up a phone interview for the Business Development Internship at coursehero. Can you give me any tips or ideas of what kind of questions to expect? Thanks in advance for any help you can give me!

Hi Copehickory,

I apologize for the late response. I have not been on the forums lately.

I recommend to do the following to prepare for the interview:

Be prepared to discuss how the Course Hero Knowledge Drive functions and how it benefits children abroad.

Review and understand your resume in order to discuss your work experience.

Be prepared to discuss how you plan on achieving your goals for Course Hero.

If you’re involved on campus, be prepared to discuss it.

Make sure to ask questions at the end of the interview.

I hope this helps!

Kind regards,

CHintern
