S was invited to apply to this program which is open to 16 freshman and involves taking 6 credit courses fall and spring. Students in the class live in Thurston (his first choice) and are taught by Prof. Kelts. DH and I thought this would be a great opportunity for a freshman to be in such a small class with a professor (not a grad student), and it's a way to get some of his poli sci requirements done (his intended major).
Anyone else invited to apply to the program? Are any current students or parents of current students familiar with the program and have any info to share? If anyone has had Prof. Kelts, what's he like and how demanding are his courses? Any info would help him decide if he wants to apply.

lol i think everyone who put thurston down as a dorm choice got an invite.

ratemyprofessors.com for checking out the profs.

rate my professors is too subjective, take it with a grain of salt. If a student didn't get the grade they wanted, then the professor is "not good".
I would not rely too much on it...

did everyone who requested thurston actually get invited to this program? i know I did but I was under the impression it was somewhat of an honor. Nonetheless, I am curious as to how demanding this whole option is, and whether or not it would mean I only take three classes etc... Thanks!

An honor? I wouldn't know but it seems that we all got the same letter...

^^^ not necessarily. yes, some students retaliate for bad grades on ratemyprofessors, but most comments seem genuine. you can learn quite a bit about potential professors- their workload, office hours, overall helpfulness... it's pretty easy to see which entries are written for spite.

Actually, my S got one email about the program from housing, but then got another one from the prof who teaches the course. Is that what everyone else got?

How are you guys getting stuff from housing? I thought t he housing does not clse until 5/20.

Meadesport, check your gwu.edu e-mail.

D got 2 e-mails about this program too, but she is in the honors program, so can't do it.
