Just out of curiosity, how many courses (on average) are considered to be a normal course load in college?

Well next year, freshmen year, I will be taking 4 courses.

4 at mine.

5 at the local state uni.

Depends how the system around you works.

First sem. next year I will be taking 6. Joy. But im majoring in Biomed eng. so its expected to have a lot of work.

Most people take 4 or 5. Of course if you have some hard major like chemical engineering, you'll probably take more.

12 units is considered full-time for most colleges. That would be about 4 classes. I've taken 5-6 to stay on track for a 4-year graduation. So, it depends on your major and how quickly you want to finish school.

usually 12-15 credits, with each class usually being 3-5 credits.

i TAKE 21 CREDITS

Hehe. i love my college. 1 credit for every class. 32 credits to graduate. So much simpler.

My max credit is 4.75 (multiply by 4 to get real credit hours). I did 4.75 spring sms.

I've done 18 credits each semester so that has been 5-7 classes each time depending on whether I have a lab or somethin stuck in there.

for those with more than four classes, are all the classes "heavy duty" so to speak, or are they seminars and such

do you guys find 4-5 classes a manageable workload? or are you guys up all night?

brpstn- I generally had a good balance between classes. Next year basically the same... some killer labs, some simple gen eds, and some stuff for my major. If you take a heavy load, but balance out the difficulty it really isn't that horrible.

i take 6 classes. I dont read or study. So not really. It is pretty long. i find the more classes you take the faster the weeks go.

the faster life goes the better. means the sooner it ends,.

I usually take 6 per semester, but this semester (my last one ever) i only took 4 - because the courses are huge. i spend a LOT of time in the library and a lot of time studying.. but that's because my major has a lot of work. some of my roommates take 5 or 6 per semester and don't do half the work i do.

5 this semester, 4 during the summer (it would be rather difficult to take 5), 5 next semester.

All of which are 3 credits.

gphoenix, which college do you go to?

12 hours is the norm.

Going to attend Swarthmore College. It's 1 credit per class there, although 'upper-class' and special seminars are 2 credits (cuz they take up a lot of time and energy). But it still amounts to 4 classes per semester, 5 if you're crazy.
