Course load to take

Another sort of ignorant question, but if I have absolutely no clue what major I'm interested in, what are the core classes I should take the first two years?

Short Answer: Depends on the school.

Slightly Longer Answer: Depends on the school and what you like...

Longer answer: Take GenEds required by the school and choose ones you like most, for example...

Fall:
Freshmen writing/composition (3)
Math if req'd (0-3)
A freshmen seminar if req'd (0-1)
Intro to Psychology/Sociology/etc. (3)
Public Speaking if req'd (take it early--it will help in other classes--3)
An intro course in one area you'd be interested in studying (3)
An intro course in another area you'd be interested in studying (3--take if there's space)

Spring:
Literature course (3)
American Gov't/History/Poli-Sci/etc. (3)
Intro to Art/Music Fundamentals/etc. (3)
Intro to Philosophy (3)
Either follow up one of the previous study areas you liked or try another intro course here (3)

You will want to tweak that per school, but that is a pretty gen-ed type schedule w/ a decent range of majors represented as well as including some basic courses that will help strengthen skills for other classes later on down the road.

thanks for replying! definitely helped.

Your school should have a list of required general classes you should take. Also, taking intro courses in potential majors can help you decide what you want to do, or maybe the school will offer a career class.
