Hello,
I am a premedical student doing biomedical sciences on a non traditional plan. I finished my AA while I was in high school. This fall 2015 is my first semester and I’m taking bio 1 physics 1 chem 2 with all 3 labs and an upper level election.
I am planning on taking these classes in the next semester but I need advice from some of you guys.
Organic chem 1
Orgo lab
Physics 2
Physics 2 lab
Bio II diversity of life
Bio II lab
While taking these clases, I want to be able to shadow and volunteer. Do you guys think this is too much? Or manageable.
Wouldn’t you be better off asking fellow students who have or are taking those classes right now?
Nobody but you knows or will find out if it’s too much. If it’s affecting your grades, stop. And I assume you know the college course grades you received in hs are factored into your med school GPA. Good luck.
One of the biggest reasons people drop off the pre-med track is that they seriously underestimate the amount of work that is going to be required by the class. For example, although labs often only get 1 credit, they re equivalent to a full class worth of effort in many places. So yes, talk to students who have already taken the class (that’s what your pre-med club is for) - but definitely take the minimum load any time you are taking a pre-req heavy schedule. Save the shadowing and volunteering for the summer or semesters when you don’t have your pre-reqs stacked up. There are absolutely no prizes given out for finishing those pre-reqs early.
