Course Load

Hi. I am a sophomore in high school and I am taking both ap bio and chemistry this year. I chose to do this because I’m hoping to go on a pre-med track. I am also taking ap world and precalculus. Do you think this is too much, and how can I manage it? Additionally, will this help my chances with getting into college due to them seeing I can handle such a course load during sophomore year, specifically UVA?

Did you take any AP classes in 9th? If so, how did you do with grades/exam scores?

Doubling up on AP Sciences is not recommended. Take AP Bio or Chem this year. Take the other AP next year and AP Physics your Senior year. This way you have all the major science courses covered and you can maintain a good GPA for your college applications.

It largely depends on the teachers, your abilities etc. I know people who have successfully taken 2 AP sciences at the same time but it is difficult. As a sophomore I probably wouldn’t choose to go that route but instead I’d keep a more normal course- load an work to excel. Have you talked to the teachers and your guidance counselor about your plan?
