Course Load

I think I've asked about a dozen different people and I always get different answers. I'm so confused

For a schedule over 18 hours (19--because of a lab), do you "need" to get dean's permission? How do you even do that? I don't expect the dean has the time for stupid things like this. I understand that on August 14th my credit load will go up to 18, but I have 16 right now, and I need to add one more class. For exam excuses it says you have to go through the dean's office, but I was able to get them from my adviser. I have a good GPA, but I know that if I think the work is going to be too much, I'm dropping a class. Some people have told me that I can just add the class on student central online and not have any problems, but I think I'm looking for a little more assurance. Help?

Subrideo -- I'm not sure it'll work on student central without permission. A department was adding a course to my D's schedule (she needed permission from the department) and they called her and said they had tried but were not able to do it. She had registered for 16 hours already. She dropped a course, called them back, and then it worked. (This was last spring -- she's a sophomore this year.) I don't know more than that, but . . . .

Ooohh...OK, thanks for the reply! I'm a sophomore this year too...Maybe that was a freshman thing? I know the first semester we weren't allowed more than 17 credits, but I thought the hours went up in spring....Good thing I'm getting to campus early then! I'll have to give my adviser a lovely visit soon :/.
