Course Order for transfer from CC to UCB

Hey all,

I am currently a freshmen at a California CC (quarter system), with the intent to major in Computer Science and desire to attend Berkeley (L&S / BA).
That said, I am currently enrolled in introductory programming in C, Math 1C (Calculus C), and English 1A. I was under the impression that it was to my advantage to complete as many major pre-requisites by fall quarter of sophomore year when I apply. Therefore, I am currently planning to complete the full calculus series (up to Math 1D), linear algebra/differential equations, data structures (for 61b), 61A at Cal over summer session, and a handful of programming courses by next fall.
Additionally, I will have completed Calculus based Physics series by the end of fall quarter.
However, looking at the assist agreement page, I am a bit confused:
"Primary selection criteria for admission, in general:
- completion of L&S Requirements (or IGETC), plus
- strength of academic preparation, and
- grade point average."

I am not following IGETC, so I do need to take up to the 3rd level course in a foreign language. Is it advantageous for me to take it prior to applying in fall, or can I just save that until after applying (but will complete it by spring prior transfer) since it's not related to my major at all?
Does it really strengthen your application if you complete the general ed requirements before applying or does it not matter as long as you complete it prior to transferring?

**Also, I read that you can complete the foreign language requirement by at least getting a 590 on the SAT II language subject test. Do you think it is better for me to just take SAT II and get it out of the way instead of taking the actual course ( I am certain I can get at least a 590...)
TL;DR, What is the most optimal order to take my courses?

Get your major prerequisites done by the end of Fall and push the general requirements into Winter and Spring (although you should have the R&C sequence done by Fall also). It doesn’t look like you need breadth, only R&C, Quantitative, and FL.

Did you not take foreign language in high school? That is the most common way to waive out of that requirement. I have a sneaky suspicion that you need to have taken the SAT Subject Test while in high school. If you attended high school outside of the U.S. where the primary language of instruction is not English and you took English as a second language for three years or more, then you have the met the FL requirement.

If you are near Oakland, you can try to get CS 61A and EE 42 done at Laney College. If you are near Walnut Creek, you can try to get CS 61B and CS 61C done at Diablo Valley College.
