Course Overload/Cost per credit

I've been poking around the website but can't seem to find the answer to this. What is considered a course overload at Tulane.? Here where I work 18 credits is the max a student can take without it being considered an overload. I'm pretty sure it's 19 at Tulane.

Also what is the additional cost for taking a course overload? My son just met with his adviser and she is encouraging him to take 21.5 credits next semester. I have to look into that further, not sure why anyone would encourage that?!?!?!! I believe that additional is for the second part of the Business Tides. I just don;t want to get some huge bill for additional credits not covered by his scholarships and loans already budgeted for!

I will research this further, but I am 95% sure that when I looked into this about 4-5 years ago, it turned out Tulane is one of the few schools I know of that doesn’t charge extra no matter how many credits you take. Either that or the credit amount before it kicked in was ridiculously high, like 25. I know I did see something about it back then. Let’s both keep looking and whoever finds it first report back here.

BTW, it is snow day at Tulane. Once a year they create artificial snow on the Quad. Today is that day.

Found it. It is in the Undergraduate Catalog, Academic Policies, Course Load

http://catalog.tulane.edu/content.php?catoid=41&navoid=1623#Course_Loads

So that strongly implies that there is no surcharge. But we cannot rely on implications, so I called the registrars office and she could not have been clearer. Tulane does not have a surcharge for any number of hours. “You can take 12 hours or 25 and as a full time undergraduate the tuition is the same.” So there you go.

FYI, my D took 21 or 22 hours one semester, and she survived just fine. Of course, it depends a tremendous amount on what classes one is taking. I know one of those classes for her was a 3 hour course in the theater department that had to do with proper speaking on stage. An oversimplification, but that was the basic idea of it. It didn’t require a lot of work outside of class other than attending productions on and off campus, which she did anyway.

Thanks FC! knew I could count on you! That’s incredible that there is no surcharge. I’m certainly not complaining!

I saw that it is snow day, my son will be doing a group presentation and will miss it but he’s not concerned as I’m sure he’ll get to experience the real thing when he’s home for Christmas!
