Relatively quick 'yes or no' question:

I understand that NU does charge you for course overloads if u graduate early, but do you still get charged if you have course overloads and plan on graduating in 4 years (12 quarters)?

Nope. Did it every quarter took 2 more per quarter average. Common myth for sure.

According to the Registrar, you only get charged the last quarter if you actually do use it to graduate early.

NUraider,

You graduated with over 70 courses?

You took 6 classes per quarter at NU instead of the usual 4? I don’t believe it.

Yup I did. Why the disbelief?

Depending on which courses you take, overloading is hell. I think it was the 3 French classes in the Spring that killed me, though, not the 5 classes total.

People overload all the time. The deans office is usually pretty busy with kids. It’s not a ton but I’d say in the hundreds.

I know people who’ve taken 7. >.<

Personally though, 5 was manageable. I tried taking a 6th but ehh… it was SO boring. I guess if you’re interested in most of the classes and motivated enough [or brown] it’s possible.

The disbelief is bc I’ve never known anyone to take more than 5 at a time, and when they did, it was a one-shot deal for special reasons, not an ongoing 5-at-a-time plan. I don’t know how one would have any time for an outside life or to enjoy all the nice things about NU and Evanston. Life isn’t just about hitting the books.

Believe me there was time for more. I took more than 6 not telling how many more though haha. It’s whatever you make of it.

Wow Nuraider, that’s really impressive!

Pizzagirl: I’ll admit, I had no life when I took orgo, but then again, who really does? But afterwards, I found a decent balance between school, being social, and being involved. It’s all possible, and people that overload aren’t always in the library!

And true, it is about balance. I took orgo, physics, and thermodynamics one quarter and it absolutely killed me. You have to make sure that you don’t have 6 midterms in a week, but you know that from day 1.

Overloading is one of the best kept secrets I’d say at NU
