first, is it likely that we will get our primary choice of classes? i opted for american history past 1877, calc 1, chem 101, and some fsem class... i really dont want to get bumped from calc or chem, especially because there pre-med required

second, whats the best gym class to take? which one to people enjoy the most? what all does aerobics, relaxation/wellness entail? and would you recomend taking a gym class in an activity youve never done before in your life, but might want to try, like raquetball? or do most people sign up in things they already played back home.?

I don't know becuase I'm only going to be a freshmen myself, but I bet the PE courses (especially something like raquetball) would be more fun if you already knew someone in your class. I planning on signing up for one of the 2nd quarter raquetball classes, but I'm going to wait until I get there and find someone to do it with me, let me know if you're still interested. I think that you can sign up for the second quarter ones later, but I'm not sure.

Gym classes- you don't actually register for them. You just show up on the first day and you register with the teacher :) Most people just try new things or ramp up their gym credits with their club/IM sports. I do recommend trying at least one Outdoor Ed class- something that Colgate's location can only offer!

You'll get into your primary classes- don't worry too much :)

I think freshmen are supposed to register for their first quarter PE class now with their other classes. (That's what they did last year). Take whatever seems interesting to you. If you are into golf, that's great in the fall - the Colgate course is fantastic. For future quarters, you can just show up on the first day of class. (You can probably switch to another class for your first Q too if you change your mind when you get to campus - I don't think it's a big deal).

Freshmen are picking after everyone else, so you might not get all your choices. You're likely to end up in the course you want, but maybe at a less desirable time or with a less popular professor.

the registrar tries. I was lower on the list for selection so I had got stuck with my last choice, but it turned out well and I ended up loving the class and the prof. I would say keep an open mind and things will work out. I've never heard of a bad fsem at Colgate, so if you weren't happy I'd be shocked.

Do you know where you are in the freshman registration pecking order? Last year they told incoming freshmen - it was based on your last name. If you are the very last group to pick, and your FSEM first choice is popular, it might be tough. The good news is they switch the order around every semester, so if you are picking last this time, you'll be one of the first picking next semester. It all works out.

do u think ratemyproffesor .com is an accurate site to use for colgate professors in choosing FSEMS... like theoretically if thers an interesting class u think, but the reviews say the professor is god awful and the worst at colgate, would u still recomend taking the class?

It really depends on your tolerance level. Last semester I took a senior seminar with a really bad (well, just extremely disorganized for my taste) professor but I ended up loving the reading material and discussion anyway. Of course, she drove me nuts at times but I don't regret taking that class at all.
