Course Registration Question

Sorry for seperate thread, but didn’t want to get buried in similiar but different threads.

From reading other threads we understand the schedule can be tweaked all summer.

So say we put a “place holder” elective/other course in a time slot, and then we find a more desired course to replace it; Will we be able to go ahead and register for that course and then delete the “place holder” course?

Basically, wondering if we would get some kind of course overload error, too many credits, etc. if we try to register for desired course prior to deleting “place holder” course.

Basically, wondering if we would get some kind of course overload error, too many credits, etc. if we try to register for desired course prior to deleting “place holder” course.

That depends…how many credits would the total be? Another issue is if there’s a time overlap with the old class and new class.

Instead, why not add/drop at the same time? Use the add/drop link. If your fear is that somehow you’ll lose both classes, then do it during an odd time…like the middle of the night.

Thanks m2ck – plan is for D to go in w/17 credits (counting AA). Yes, fear would be losing place holder and then not getting desired; but if we can add/drop, that probably is the answer, hopefully not allowing the drop unless the add happened.

Thanks for all the advice we’ve gotten from you and this board – no telling where we would be without it, as we head to BB next week.

RTR!!!

Speaking of 17 credits, I saw in the new catalog that, at least for the business school, there is a limit of 16 credits a semester for freshmen. It looks like you can get an override - does anyone know from whom the students request an override? And can they do it in anticipation of picking up extra credits as the summer goes on? My D might end up with 17 simply because of OA and/or one of the freshman compass courses.

Here’s what the new catalog says with respect to the general issue of course load:

Now, here’s what the Business School says:

I’d imagine overloads as well as underloads are handled by the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Programs. That would be Dr. David Heggem. You can find his contact info, as well as that for all the Business School advisors, here: Advising

Thanks Malanai! We’ve had occasion to contact Dr. Heggem in the past, and he was very responsive. We were planning to look him up at BB in any event, so that will work out well.

That credit limit wording has been there for awhile. An overload would likely be granted for students who have shown that they can take a heavier load. Dr. Heggem would be the one to talk with about taking an overload.
