I will be attending Boston College in the fall and am going to orientation in two weeks. I know that I will be registering for classes at orientation, but does anyone know how difficult it is to switch courses later? The reason I ask is because I will not have received this year’s AP Exam scores yet, and don’t know if I will be able to place out of certain CORE courses. For example, should I sign up for a CORE math class at orientation and then drop the class if I find out I can place out with a good score on my Calc Exam?

There is a period of drop/add during the first week of classes. Don’t like the class you registered for? Drop it, and get another one. It’s pretty easy.

Now, if you are trying to switch schools, then that is another matter entirely…

after you receive your login information (during orientation), you can then log in and add/drop courses, literally 24/7. Thus, when you receive your AP scores, you could drop your math course and pickup something else. If what you want is not available, keep checking from time-to-time as others add/drop over the summer.

Yes, it is fairly easy to change your schedule around. However, as a freshman, you have the lowest registration priority and you may not get all of your first choices for particular classes.

Also keep in mind that you don’t have to take your core courses the first semester or even the first year. You just need to fulfill all of the requirements over 4 years. So if you think you can pass out of math with AP credit, you can just defer registering for a math class until the spring semester, by which time you will know what your AP score was. (This works as long as you’re not planning to major in math!)
