I havent done any AP courses. I did the math test and got 35/40(not sure how far it will take me without AP).
I'm not sure of the following
1) which course will be best for me to take in calculus. I'm torn between 21-121 and 21-122.
2) if i take 21-122 does it mean i am transferred units for 21-120,21-121 etc.
(I'm not sure of this because i didnt do AP and I thought units could be transferred only if u did AP).
I know this topic has been raised previously in the past. However I couldnt find the answers for these questions.
Thanks in advance

i am in your shoes as well....don't have any AP credit....and got 34/40 in placement test and 700, 800 in SAT I, SAT II resp....so i think these scores should put me in 21-122....

Wait until you hear from CMU. I recommend taking the highest possible course you can. Don't take a lower class because you think it's "easy" and you want "time to adjust." Calculus at CMU is not easy, even if you've taken it before.

I agree with fool. Only take a lower class if you feel like you didn't really understand the material.

If you take 21-122 and score high enough on the placement test, you get credit for 21-120. 21-121 covers the second half of 21-120 and the first half of 21-122. If you take 21-121, then you take 21-123, a half-semester mini, the following semester.

I think that if you do not have AP credit, but take Calc 2, then you won't recieve "credit" for the course i.e. they won't credit the units towards graduating, but by completing the course, your Calc 1 requirement will also be satisfied. This is how I understand this working, but I didn't have the same situation when I went in so someone feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

You may be right, Waffles. I've always paid more attention to statisfying the requirements, rather than collecting units since I'm pretty sure I'll graduate with plenty of units.
