Course Registration

Jack Schaeffer (note: there are two J. Schaeffers in the math department) is an excellent Calc in 3D teacher. If you're going to take it, do so with him.

I agree with LowLatency. Jack Schaeffer is really slow, but also very in-depth. I didn't go to a single lecture, but if the book didn't explain something well, the lectures were online!

Don't make the mistake of taking Calc in 3D spring semester if you can help it, I've heard negative things about the professor.

The professor in the spring was a very nice person, but I think it was her first time teaching a big lecture (her FCEs only showed classes of ~30 people). I found the lectures by Jack Schaeffer to be easier to follow.

I also hear that the other Schaeffer can be very confusing, although he's a brilliant man and fluent in something like 10 languages.

so, i'm in MCS and I still haven't gotten anything (mail or email) about registration... and i'm leaving on vacation soon. should I wait for it, or just take the placement test and send in the registration forms?

id say call katya(whom I think is one of the MCS advisors) at (412) 268-6679 on monday. It say in the letter that she's there from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. She can probably help you out.

cheetah_pita, incoming students who will be a part of specific programs, such as SHS, will receive their registration information a bit later than other MCS or HSS students. If you are not participating in such a program, then you might want to contact MCS as soon as possible. Good luck!
