course repeat. summer school. transcript?

ok im in 10th grade and recieved a C for 1st semester and a D for 2nd semester in Geometry. I am re-taking Geometry over the summer. Each semester is 12 days over the summer. The form said the higher grade will replace the new grade. The higher grade will be counted on the GPA instead of the lower grade. Well i have one question. does the lower grade show up on your transcript or is it erased and the summer school grade on there?

i hope it does not look like this

Geometry
1st semester 2nd semester
C (Repeat-A) D (Repeat- A)

It sounds like it wouldnt shop up like that if it replaces the grade.... but idk its up to your school district, i'd ask a school counselor

OK: On 6/10/08 you had A A in Geometry. Now you have C D and are in summer school. Which is it?

What their saying is that they had an C D in the school year and when he is going to take summer school he's going to have an A A!

If you look at a past posting by the OP "what are my chances" the OP listed that they had already received A A in Geometry.

he probably already took the course and got A's in both semesters.

Rather than speculating on this kids current grades or his other postings- Does anybody know the answer to his question? Question as I understand it was basically- do summer school grades replace the regular semester grades or does the regular semester grade still show on the transcript (even if they are not calculated in the gpa and class standing)? Pretty valid question.

I guess it may depend on your school district, but out here I believe a summer school grade would wipe out a regular semester grade from a transcript.

I don't know about this specific case. If I had to make an educated guess, the grade card would probably denote that the "A" courses were a re-take.

At USNA, if you fail a course and re-take it, your OOM/QPR doesn't increase if you got an "A" the second time around. Same thing with the PRT, if you fail the best you can get on a second attemp is a 60%, even if you max the entire thing!

i think the best bet would be to talk to the registrar at your school. that's a school specific case.
and, in the worst case, USNA will see that you put in the extra effort to retake the course and do well in it.

Summer School hasn't started yet. As a matter of fact most schools are not out yet let alone grades for summer sessions.

Summer School hasn't started yet. As a matter of fact most schools are not out yet let alone grades for summer sessions. Twelve days per semester?? That is not how I remember summer school, but I may be wrong. Read the other posts by this OP. Each one has something different.

In my district, it puts the credit # for the original class to zero.. which takes it out of the equation but leaves it on paper while the summer school grade takes 5 points.

I really wouldn't worry about it if you think you can get an A. Even if the admissions sees the bad grade, I think they would look at in a good way. That is, that you were persistent, learned from what you had trouble with, and took the time to correct it.

thanks everyone for the help because i am worried that they will see that 1 bad grade and ruin my chances for anything. My dad said that they will wonder why i didnt get an A the first time around during the regular school year which is probably true.

I don't know how schools handle this, let alone your specific school. I'd ask your school registrar when you return to school.

As for not doing well during the school year . . . what's done is done and you can't change it. You can only try to improve it, which you're doing. However, your junior and senior years (I believe you indicated you just finished 10th grade) are critical. Focus on doing your very best the first time.
