Course Scheduling at Grinnell

First, what's the period schedule? How many days a week are most classes, and how long do they last? I can't find this anywhere on the Grinnell website.

Aso, are mostly the same course held every fall, and the same ones held every spring? (At the school I'm at now, it's frustrating, because courses jump around and disappear from year to year, and if I miss taking one, it may be a while before it'll show up again.)

Finally, are there problems with closeouts? How hard is it for students to get the classes they want?

Thanks in advance. (I applied as a transfer student, by the way.)

Classes are either 50minutes, three times a week, or 2 hours, twice a week. Intro languages are 5 times a week for 50minutes. hard languages and some math classes are 4 times a week, 50minutes. Science labs are all over the place: i have no idea.

Usually, a course is offered once a year. they occasionally skip a year, but this is the exception rather than the rule.

How hard it is to get a class depends entirely on the class. If you are a major or have seniority, you’re more likely to get a class. Some classes, like international relations, are in very high demand because they are the prerequisite for 4 seminars. if a professor is known to be especially good or is retiring soon, competition for a class can be fierce. In the end, if you register on time and e-mail a professor, you can usually get a class. I’m the only person I know who’s had serious issues, and that’s because I just straight-up did something dumb.

Good luck!
