Course selctions (accounting major).. Tax Guy.. help!

I will be heading back to University of San Francisco next semester.

I browsed their School of Business and Management and realized that they do not require a lot of accounting courses to complete the major.

Required (12 units)
Intermediate Accounting I (4 units)
Intermediate Accounting 2 (4 units)
Advanced Accounting (4 units)

Electives (8 units) 3 courses choose from the following
Federal Taxation I (2 units)
Accounting Information Systems (2 units)
Auditing (4 units)
Federal Taxation 2 (2 units)

I am shocked that the school doesn’t even require Cost Accounting.

If I decide not to take Accounting Information Systems and Cost Accounting, will I not qualify to take the CPA Exam?
If I still qualify, will it put me at a disadvantage?

CPA questions are moreso out of your number crunching classes like intermdiate than case study/overhead-slide-memorizing ones like Cost and AIS, respectively. I once had sex with an internal auditor so I know this stuff because she talked constantly.

You would have to check with your state board of accountancy to see if they require a course in cost accounting. As I said in the featured thread, the CPA exam may be uniform but different states have differing reqirements to sit for the test.

thanks taxguy......

Will it benefit me if I take Cost Accounting? Because if I do end of taking Cost accounting it will defer my grad date...... =(

If you need it to take the CPA, it will benefit you. If you don't need it for the exam and don't work for a manufacturer, you can do without it.

One more question... is Accounting Information system vital?

coolant: I wouldn't say it is vital, but it is highly useful and desireable to take.
