Course Selection: AP Stat or AP Economics

Hi,
I’m picking courses and have the choice between AP Stat and AP Econ. I’m already taking a non-AP honors math. I heard that colleges don’t consider AP Stat as a “true” AP, so I was considering AP Econ. The only problem is, one of the 2 teachers is TERRIBLE. She’s not very hard, but does not teach and students have to learn from the textbook on their own. Do I take the chance with AP Econ? And which one looks better on an application? I feel I can handle both of them and get good grades.

P.S.
If it matters, I will be a junior next year and I currently have a 4.4 weighted GPA.

Thanks!!!

Take whichever interests you more. I’m currently taking both and at my school they are of relatively equal rigor. It’s actually easier to get a good grade in econ because our stats tests are very short and weighted as a large percentage of our grade.

There’s nothing wrong with having to teach yourself from the textbook, in my opinion. If anything, it is good practice for college level courses. Don’t let something like that stop you from taking the class.

Since you’re already taking a math class, I would probably lean towards econ if I were choosing only one of the two. But if you are more interested in statistics, take that! If you feel like you can handle both and still have time for extracurricular activities, go for it. You know your own situation the best!

I’m taking both next year

If you want to take Stat, take stat. Econ won’t look better. Besides, you are already taking a math class, so taking Stat would be a plus if anything

Statistics is statistics. It’s a math courses and colleges view it as such.
