Course selection at your school

I am from University of toronto in Canada and our course selection is hell. Many can't get 1/4 of the courses they want! is it like this at your schools?

ive heard this is a problem at state schools. Either they cant get their classes or are put into a 300 person class. Both are unacceptable, I would definitely consider a transfer if thats the case.

only 300 students? that's a small class!
at my school, many can't get our courses and we are in classes of upper 800(avg) and lower 1000s

yeah thats kind of ridiculous. Good luck getting a teacher rec with that kind of class. Next semester i have 4 classes and seminar, I dont know how large the seminar is, but my 4 classes are all under 35 students.

That's like High school! which school do you go to?

i go to a community college and all of my classes have been 30students or less...next fall i'll be taking Calculus I with 8 other people.

i wish i went to a school like that. Here i am, at one of the more competitive schools in Canada, and i don't feel like i am learning from teachers. I go to lectures, but i feel i could just read the textbook and that would suffice for tests and assignments

I would hope that that is the case only for intro classes.

At Duke most of my classes are 30-40 except for a couple required intro courses which top out at 200.

The course selection process consist of 3 "windows" of registration and they open them successively and you get assigned to each based on your ID number I think, they rotate it every year or something. It kinda sucks if you are the later windows cuz some classes will be full, but overall it's alright.
