Course selection help?

I know it's not really the time for selecting courses yet, but I'm just curious. Any advice is appreciated =)

I will be entering Hotchkiss as a freshman. Does anyone have recommendations for which courses I should take or which teachers are really really good?

I am (very) passionate about Visual Arts, and I really want to take a course on web design and animation. I'm interested in photography and film making, but I don't have a lot of experience. However my parents disapprove of my pursuing art as a career. I am thinking of becoming a doctor.

I am taking Algebra I this year. Good at math, but not Math Olympiad Champion level. How do math course selections work?

I am fluent in Chinese, so I may start learning French in high school. However, I am concerned that this will take up a lot of time. (If I don't take French, and just fulfill language requirement with Chinese, I will have lots of 'free time', right?)

I can play violin or viola. Will join orchestra.

Will aim to participate in an environmental club, MUN or debate team, choir, publication (yearbook, magazine, newsletter)

My 'dream jobs' include:
- working for dreamworks/pixar in animation (or movie making works too XD)
- becoming a doctor (eye doctor or dentist).
- more to come in the future :P

Is all of this too much or just right?

Thanks!

You’ll be required to take the Humanities core. Within this you select an art category for the year (i.e. visual arts, music, theater, etc.) I believe the electives will come later on.

You should inquire about the language requirement. Since you are already bilingual, you may be exempt from having to study a language, but you definitely need to confirm this.

Good luck!

Buummpp…

Are there any current Hotchkiss students?

I’m thinking the same. I’m fluent in Spanish, but want to take French badly.

I suggest you take French then, since you really want to learn French.

I think I will be taking Latin =)

I’ve taken Latin I, it’s really easy if you know Spanish or any of the romantic languages. My dean really wants me to take Spanish though, but I really want to take French… I guess I’ll have to talk to her :)

Oh… I’m actually hoping it will be the other way around! I want to learn Latin first, so that in the future I can learn other romance languages if I want to =)

It works both ways actually :)
