Hey all, I'll be starting as a freshman in the honors program in the fall and just had a couple questions about course selection. As far as my classes go I wish to be a SCPP major. The honors program requires that I take the honors seminar and honors philosophy. I'll also be taking intro chem 10171 and I have to take a math course.
The math course I have to take is one of my main questions. I took AP Calc BC and I anticipate getting a 5, but at least a 4. The honors program offers a course called honors math 10450, which seems a little iffy IMO. It seems like half of it is more about the history of math than actual math. I know how important GPA is to med school admissions so I want to keep that up. In that regard I was thinking of taking 10550-10560, even though I will probably palce out of them with BC. So... am I allowed to do this?
The other question I have is about the elective I should take. First off I don't know if I should get rid of my intro physics now or wait. I know I'll be taking bio and orgo sophomore year so taking physics with them could be hell with all the labs. Hoever the online course selection doesn't even list physics as an elective option.
If I didn't take physics I'd probably want to take a history course. Again, the online course selection limits your courses however. I think I'd rather take a course like Alexander the Great or Roman History than the courses they have listed.
So basically my questions are: am I limited to the courses they show you of having the option to take online, could I take 10550-560 even with placing out of them, and would physics be smart to take as a freshman or should I wait?

I don't think that you have to use AP credit if you do not want to--son did not use his Chem AP credit knowing that he would have to take it. He had taken the AP exam for the Chem at the end of Soph year in HS and was afraid the Chem for engineers might be difficult, esp since he had not had any chemistry in a couple of years. He e-mailed his FYS advisor when he was registering for fall fresh classes and requested that the credit NOT be used. I think he was glad that he started in chemistry at the beginning. Don't know about the other things you're asking, but hope this helps!
