Course Selection Problem!

Hi, I’m an incoming freshman and I have a few questions regarding course selection at BC. I attended orientation already and signed up for classes. However, I would like to change some of the courses that I have signed up for. Should I wait until the first week of classes to speak to my advisor or am I able to change my schedule through the UIS system? Basically, would I encounter a problem if I went about this on my own without notifying somebody at BC first?

Thank you in advance for all the help.

I realized I had a few problems with mine after orientation (ROTC scheduling conflicts) and I just downloaded the program and changed my own. My OL said it is fine, and I’d advise doing this as classes may be full after the last orientation sessions.

Once you have cleared Orientation, you can make as many changes to your schedule as you like. You do not need permission. You do not need to wait until Sept. If the class is available now, go ahead and make the change. But note that you will have to download the UIS app onto your computer.

UIS is kind of hard to use at first so make sure you’re not dropping the wrong class when you type in ‘drop’. Also make sure you write ‘save’ every now and then or your classes will not be saved in your schedule. I really wish they would update UIS…it is kind of ancient looking.

UIS is really old-school technology: it is a DOS program running in a window. But it works pretty well once you get the hang of it.

Despite how crappy it is, UIS is something you will use often so it’s best to become proficient with the program early.
