Course Selection Question...s

I put down sociology as my inteded major when i applied, but I can change that when i register for courses (due 25th), right?

My current inteded major is ALP2 and I need your help to select this year's classes

Course1:
Choose 4 seminars.
ANTH, ARHI, ECON, FTT, HIST, LIT, MUS, PHIL, POLS, PSY, SOC, THEO
I think I would choose, PSY, SOC, PHIL, THEO. are they tough? would you recommend other seminars? perhaps those that are easier? (I know there are no easy courses at ND, but I would like to know the ones that are easier compared to another..)

Course2:
Mathematics.
Math 10350 and 10360

Course3:
Natural Sciences.
Chem 10171 and 10172

Course4:
Req/Electives

Course5:

Prgm Req/Electives

this is the part I don't get C of AL requires me to take three courses in soc. sci and history & one fie arts and one literature & one language

Course6:
PE 10000

So I'd really appreciate it if you could explain what I have to do for Course 4 & 5. I'm sorry if it's a stupid question, but I really don't get it...

Also, I can change this if I want to right?

ugh... sorry I can't believe I'm this excited/nervous about college that I can't think straight.

thanks for the help!

I going to be a freshman next year too, so my advice should be taken with a grain of salt. I am pretty sure that we are supposed to pick classes that we are interested in for those two sections. They want us to dabble a bit and have us find out what we are interested in, while possibly filling a requirement for our major. I say just go through the list and put down what sounds good, that is what I did.

They reserve those off for students like Science majors (who need to take Physics as well) or Engineering (who need a two semester engineering sequence). Pretty much take an elective or two there, you could even start working on your major requirements or something like that (I am not familiar with sociology). Since there are two, you could take a history or economics with the other to start working on the social science requirement of A&L school, or maybe your first philosophy out of the way. Pretty much there are a decent amount of university and A&L requirements, and since sociology isn't too stringent on required courses first semester Freshman year, you have some freedom with your schedule. Do what you're interested in, but I would suggest taking Intro to Microeconomics, maybe an Intro to Sociology class (to make sure it's what you want to do) and something like Philosophy for your University Seminar.

The website/sheet is simply a wishlist.

You go through the schedule with your advisor later.

Hey, Im an SCPP major. I screwed myself HARD in the GPA department by trying to be too ambitious with scheduling. So take my advice SERIOUSLY. Go for easy non major courses. As a sociology/ALPP major you have less freedom than me b/c of your sociology requirements (not really a factor in FYS). So go register at ndtoday.com and check out teacher evalutations. You are required to take chem and calc. For Calc, Dyer is the best teacher and writes the exams but his only class is at 8:00am i think so if you don't get him, read the book. In fact, you have to do all the reading in chem too. You probably won't have Scheidt b/c he was awful and everyone hated him last yr. Lappin is cool 2nd semester. Oh and for philo AVOID GARY GUTTING. haha he owned me in philo seminar.

thanks geraldpoopy for prof. tips

MandUtd20Ole - oh, I didn't know this was like a wishlist... I thought it was the real deal and was freaking out... alright I'll just put down whatever I think is the best.

BTW, I'm not gonna major in Sociology anymore. Right now I'm thinking ALP2 and another major... just am not sure which will be my second... (is ALP2 and economics possible?)

Well ALPP isn't a major if I remember correctly, you HAVE to major in something and have it added on (kinda like a minor). Economics and ALP2 is very possible.

any idea how we know which professor is teaching these classes before we sign up?

If you have your netID, you can log onto insideND, go to the student academic tab and then select class search on the left hand side. If you search for the department, you can get all the info you need for the different classes, including the professors that you can plug into ndtoday.com. BTW, you're supposed to learn this on your own :)

ahh thank you!
