When do we get course catalogs and all that? Soon?

i heard some waitlisted kid got it before he heard the decision, but as far as i remember they come in during mid-june

ahh I can't wait any longer.. I want mine now!

me too! I know it sounds nerdy, but I can't wait for classes to start!

Me neither! ...but I'd like a little summer first! :)

But anyway, how does course registration work? (And do freshmen get last pick?)

Got it! Soooo many courses I want to take! This is very exciting/stressful. How do you just choose 4? Actually, how do you just choose 32? U of Rochester has a tuition-free 5th year so students can take courses they didn't have time for. Brown should do that!

I just got a package today with the course guide and information on CAP course registration.

ditto.. pretty cool stuff

Got mine today too, though I haven't read it yet.

yup. me too! very exciting.

Yeah, I got all that too. It took me a while, but I narrowed it down to 6 CAP courses. I think it's weird that they make us list SIX choices...is it THAT hard to get into your favorite CAP course?

It didn't take me long at all.

I picked one CAP course because the professor is awesome. I picked another because I'd take it anyway.

I only picked two, just because I really don't care if my advisor is also my professor.

I picked three. One because the professor is awesome. (Pucci, who's yours, Pete?) Two because they sounded good.

what.. how come I don't have mine yet?!

None of the CAP courses really appeal to me.. maybe I'll change my mind though.

what is CAP?

Curricular Advising Program. You'll read all about it in the packet they send, so I don't really want to go into it all.

studyguy: I was definitely wary of CAP courses, because you're bound to whatever one they put you in. I'd definitely rather not take one than take one I'm not very interested in.

Hahaha... there are soooo many CAP courses that I want to take.

I've been planning to take Physics 7 and 8 for a while, so it's nice to see that they're both CAP courses. The only problem is, there's no professor listed for either course (nor for any other physics course, for that matter), and I'm kind of wary of signing up to be advised by someone I don't know.

I definitely agree, there are soooo many good courses! The course catalog is dangerous, because about 80% of the courses in there look really tempting!

Some Questions:

1) Were the First-Year Seminars created because first-year students aren't allowed to enroll in "regular" seminar courses?

2) The course "Law and Literature: From Response to Responsibility" really interests me but it is designated English 171 and even requires written permission. Is this considered a very advanced course, inappropriate for first-years?

3) How many people are heeding the advice of the university and sampling from a wide variety of subjects and how many are thrilled to be able to study the one (or two) subjects of real interest to them?

I'm just a little confused because, like people were saying before, there are SO many appealing courses in this book. I was fairly certain as to which direction I wanted to go in until I got this book. But I guess in a way that's a good thing!
