Yesterday, I received the Academic Guide. According to the letter, students have to send in the course selection form by June 20.

Even though there seems to be limited options, do any previous students have any tips (i.e. which are the difficult and which are the easy classes, any particularly awesome/terrible class, etc)?

you can try to use ndtoday.com to check out professors for the seminar classes. The larger general requirement classes will be a randomly assigned professor based on your other classes but the specific classes that only have one “section” like a seminar should already have a teacher. You can then use ndtoday.com to view teachers.

Does this make sense?

I haven’t looked at my son’s packet, but kinda wonder if this is a wee bit early to be doing this - seems like AP scores in July could change a lot of plans.

The advisers will modify course selections if needed after AP’s are scored.

According to the letter I received, we are not supposed to wait until we receive AP scores. We have to select classes before June 20.

2 Questions:
1.) Since Theology is a requirement (correct?), should I select Theology 10001 to fulfill this requirement?
2.) Why is Intro to Chemical Principles the only option I have for a science class if I choose a Computer Science major?

JohnRevka, if you join the FYS Facebook page through insideND, you can post your questions there and first year advisors will answer them.

JohnRevka,

you can do as momdoc suggested…however, i can try to answer them…

1) theo is a requirement but you don’t necessarily have to take it first semester of your freshmen year…you only need to take two theo cources (one beginner and one additional) at Notre Dame. Most people take it sometime freshmen year but I also know a good number who took their first theo in their sophomore year.

2) since you would be an engineer with the ocmputer science major, you have to follow their path which requires general chemistry. this is a requirement of that college (engineering) so you have to take it. If you don’t, you will be behind as you would have to take it (and the subsquent course which is Bio-chem) in another year which will throw off the traditional sequence.

Hope this helps!
