I am a rising sophomore in HS and I am an A/A- student. I played for the freshman basketball team and am part of the Red Cross organization at our school, Model UN, and the Symphonic Orchestra. I am planning on taking AP World History and AP Statistics next year. My dilemma is whether or not to continue orchestra throughout my 4 years at high school. Although I am currently 2nd chair in the intermediate orchestra here and have a chance at being moved to Philharmonic next year, I am not nearly as interested in playing cello as I am playing basketball and other extra-curriculars. In addition, if I drop orchestra, I will have the opportunity to take either 3 extra APs in the next 3 years or a few more career-related courses. What should I do?

Well it seems like you don’t like playing the cello all that much compared to everything else you have going for you so why not drop orchestra? You could always play for fun on your time.

I agree. It sounds like you’d rather not do it- do what makes you happy.
