So I really want to take some business electives, but from what I hear a lot of them are exclusive to AEM/Hotel students or not open to freshmen. Would it be a good idea to take classes in Johnson as a freshmen if everything at the undergraduate level is filled when it's my turn to signup?

I took a couple of business electives (marketing, finance, accounting, etc.) and I personally didn’t find them hard to get in at all. It all depends what courses you are looking into of course. So courses are exclusive to AEM majors or upperclassmen. In many cases, you may just need to wait until you are a sophomore to get in.

As for Johnson courses, I am assuming you are an undergrad, I believe most courses offered in Johnson are either for graduate students or have prerequisites. Anyhow, check on Cornell courses website to make sure.

Most aren’t tough to get into as long as you’re referring to the Dyson school rather than the Johnson school. Classes in the Johnson school are nearly impossible to get into unless you’re a very well qualified upperclassman. If you don’t get into marketing, AEM 1200, etc. freshman fall just wait until the spring. You should be fine.
